There’s no reason for someone to *not* work with the opposite party. It’s not common, but it does happen, as we’ve been told today. And the Republican actually wants to help the Democrat because of who his opponent is. Let’s hope he does some good. With respect for Raw Story:
Texas Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico just hired a five-year veteran of Republican Sen. John Cornyn’s office to help sink GOP nominee Ken Paxton. Jacob Smith, who served as Cornyn’s deputy legislative director and policy adviser, is joining Talarico’s campaign as deputy political director,” NOTUS reported on Monday. Smith didn’t hold back explaining his switch, saying, “Ken Paxton is the most corrupt, self-dealing politician in Texas who would sell their futures to the highest contributor just to hold onto power.”
Trump got upset when Cornyn pushed back earlier this year, so he “primaried” Cornyn, who seemed to be a steady sort of person, and got Paxton in his place. Paxton certainly is a disaster already happening. He’s begging for money and support, and running away from questions. We don’t yet know how much of Texas is disgusted with Paxton. The hope is that there’s a great deal of it. Right now, Talarico and Paxton are running neck and neck, which is its own sort of surprise.
Jacob Smith was with Cornyn for quite some time. He’ll bring a decent amount of Texas Republican knowledge with him, which could cover a whole list of information. Even just some understanding of Texas voters will be helpful. All states are unique in their makeup, but Texas is something else. It’s difficult to explain. But you could say something strange, and people would know it was Texas. How about the gerrymandering? A number of states tried; some succeeded, some didn’t, but Texas took it to extremes.
Paxton has been around a while, too. The impeachment that regrettably failed for him was in US news, not just the state. Extramarital affairs were well-known, too. If he isn’t divorced already, it’s definitely in progress. And how did he pay for all those houses? That was a question he ran from. If there is something to like about this man, we have yet to see it. Why he was chosen over Cornyn by the voters is unknown. Trump was pissed, so Paxton it became. Disaster.
Texas may implode if they elect a Democrat Senator. But there are months to go yet. If Talarico can keep himself out there, talk about things that matter to the people, even when they don’t matter to Trump, and we just might have a chance. Another Democrat in the Senate wouldn’t hurt, either. Keep it up.
Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that, of all the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
