Mitch McConnell is not in the greatest of health, which makes sense since he’s 84 years old and the mid-eighties are an age bracket that a great many Americans do not exceed. Sen. Mitch McConnell’s wife reportedly traveled to China just three days after he received CPR following an apparent heart attack.
Elaine Chao, 73, who has been married to the 84-year-old Republican lawmaker since 1993 and formerly served as transportation secretary in the first Trump administration, traveled to Beijing and met with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng just days after McConnell’s hospitalization.
The timing of the visit adds further questions to a growing list McConnell’s aides have declined to answer since an EMS call made public this week revealed he had been hospitalized after suffering a heart attack on June 14, with an emergency dispatch sent to his Washington, D.C., residence.

The Republican senator’s team has confirmed he is in the hospital but has offered no further details about his condition, including whether he is conscious or who is currently running his office.
“Whether he is conscious?” That seriously is an issue? Well, you read it here just as I did. There’s always been a mystery about McConnell’s health. Like Trump, he once showed up with a very bruised hand and we have found out after the fact about various falls that he has had.
McConnell should seriously consider hanging it up. He has served a long time and had a fine career by any normal yardstick. If he’s at a place now where he’s being revived by paramedics post cardiac arrest, the universe really is giving him a calling card.
Finally, Kentuckyians and Americans deserve to know the truth of what’s happening with McConnell.
