Can he be any more of an arse? The answer is obvious, of course, but damn, this is getting old. Trump continues to have a temper tantrum about something that *no one wants*. Congress has been pushing back since the day it was conceived. The majority of the people in the country don’t want it. But Trump will not [___] give it up! With acknowledgement to Raw Story:
In an unprecedented move, President Donald Trump vowed Wednesday to block an affordable housing bill Congress had given final passage to the night before, sparking panic and shock from onlookers across the political spectrum. “We saw glimpses of this during Trump’s first administration, but never in my lifetime have I seen a president so deliberately attempt to lose majorities for his own party,” a senior Senate GOP staffer told Punchbowl News’ Andrew Desiderio, speaking on the condition of anonymity.
What a jerk. A bipartisan, extended effort by Congress, and Trump is throwing a temper tantrum because HE wants to disenfranchise voters. This particular item is a challenge to understand. Trump wants that act so badly he’s practically drooling and flailing. Apparently, severe gerrymandering isn’t enough. Primarying good people isn’t enough when the replacement he chooses is completely horrible. Sure, the people weren’t exactly as stellar as we could have wished, but Trump’s people trying to take over are going to do more harm than good, *especially* Paxton. Please, not Paxton.
In a bipartisan fashion, the House voted 358-32 to pass the 21st Century Road to Housing Act, sending it to the president’s desk for final approval. Trump was expected to sign the bill on Wednesday, but abruptly cancelled the ceremony in a bid to force Republicans to eliminate the filibuster – a Senate rule that allows lawmakers to block bills short of 60 votes – and pass his controversial voter ID bill known as the SAVE Act. Described by critics as a form of “voter suppression,” the SAVE Act would require voters to provide proof of citizenship to register to vote. The bill would disproportionately affect voters with lower incomes, who make up a significant share of Democratic Party voters.
And here is another UGH for the SAVE Act, which isn’t saving anything except possibly Republicans, but really is just because Trump wants it to save him. It’s another step in crushing elections in our country, to keep him in office until the day he gets thrown off this mortal coil. If he prevents Democratic voters from being able to vote and terrorizes Republicans, he figures he can manipulate enough people that we won’t be able to get rid of him. He thinks it’s that simple. We know it isn’t.
“Trump refuses to sign a bill that would make housing cheaper for you because [he’d] rather make voting harder for you!” wrote Rep. Maxwell Alejandro Frost (D-FL) in a social media post on X. //// “Trump is delaying rare bipartisan progress of voters’ number one issue to chase the never-gonna-happen dreams of a small number of conservative senators,” wrote Kevin Robillard, senior politics editor for the HuffPost, in a social media post on X. //// “He’s prepping to challenge the midterms y’all!” Christensen wrote in a social media post on X. //// Jonathan Berk, a housing accessibility advocate and founder of re:Main, an organization that advocates for improved housing accessibility, lamented the impact Trump’s threat could pose for millions of Americans. “One of the most consequential housing reforms to emerge from Washington in decades is now on hold,” Berk wrote.
The more Trump ages, the pettier he gets. The far right in Congress keeps thinking this act will SAVE them in elections. Again, *no one* else wants it. It would get Republicans, too, especially all their rural voters, who would have the same problems as Democrats. But Trump wants it, so Trump thinks he’ll have it. Housing is irrelevant in comparison, except that it’s very important to the voters of America. That bill, barring an act of the Devil, is DOA. Nothing is an absolute, but it’s not going to pass. Trump keeps trying, and it keeps failing. But he doesn’t learn. He’ll never learn. He’ll keep trying to push that boulder up the hill. And it will roll over him on the way down.
See you soon!
Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that, of all the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
