How on earth this idiot thought this would ever work is nutty. He figures he can just stop processing, and that’s one blatant reason his career will crater at DHS. Neither Noem nor Mullin really had any idea of the scale of that department. It’s not about wiggling your nose and *poof*, your ideas are implemented. It’s good for us that it’s not possible. His first big idea, almost right out of the gate, is impossible. And we thought Noem was dumb. My regards to Raw Story:
Newly confirmed Department of Homeland Security head Markwayne Mullin’s first major proposal for his beleaguered department was shot down by a former DHS chief of staff on Tuesday morning. As the former Oklahoma senator attempts to clean up the mess left by the fired Kristi Noem, he has proposed interfering with air traffic to sanctuary cities, an idea that critics on both sides of the aisle are calling a non-starter.
My goodness gracious and golly gee, why not? It’s not like it would be screwing over the world, or anything like that. You can’t just “turn off” flights into and out of a location. It isn’t that simple. The idea was ridiculous in the first place. No wonder both sides are against it. How did he come up with this, anyhow? Seriously! This is something so over-the-top that it should never have been discussed. The question is, will Congress be able to shut this down?
Writing for MS NOW, Jason Houser, who was chief of staff from 2021 to 2023 after previously serving as a counterterrorism official for Customs & Border Protection (CBP), also piled on while accusing Mullin of “chasing headlines.” “Recent threats by DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin to halt or limit federal processing operations at airports in so-called ‘sanctuary cities‘ should concern all Americans regardless of their views on immigration,” Houser wrote. “Airports are not political bargaining chips. They are among the country’s most vital security and economic assets, connecting businesses to global markets and supporting national security.”
There we go. They are seriously damn important, outside of the whole “sanctuary city” argument nonsense. He does not need to screw around with the airports, especially with the World Cup this summer, although the revenue we could have gotten would have been very good, before Noem threatened foreign visitors. That will cause ranting, so back to Mullin. We don’t know what he intends to do for this. It should have been to take the money, not threaten people outside of America. With the schedule apparently set in place, it’s also a pity more games couldn’t have been rescheduled for outside the country. Now it’s time to haul myself back on topic. However, you see that it is a leftover Noem problem.
The critique cuts to the heart of what Houser characterizes as the difference between actual governance and political theater. “Effective enforcement produces measurable results. Political signaling produces headlines,” he wrote. Threatening airport operations creates a headline. It generates conflict. It places local officials on the defensive. But it does not increase immigration court capacity. It does not modernize asylum processing. It does not strengthen legal pathways.” Instead, Houser argued, the DHS should focus on genuine solutions to long-standing immigration challenges that have frustrated administrations of both parties for decades.
There it is. Focus on long-term solutions, not glory-grabbing headlines. Think about problems and find solutions, not some newsbyte. We don’t want or need band-aids. We need to look at what’s broken- there’s quite a list- and brainstorm. We want to think, not react. Hmm, okay, “we” in the general sense. “We” needs to be the power in higher echelons of government. It needs the people who can get things done. Mullin? Stupid and hopeless. Work around him.
Strange side note: He used to be an MMA fighter. See you soon!
Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that, of all the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
