Again, if Biden or Obama had done any of this it would be nonstop cable coverage on Fox News and other networks. But Trump manages to normalize this behavior. Let me be crystal clear: I am not putting down gay people and I’m not inferring that Trump is gay. I am sharing this montage because gay or straight it is bizarre coming out of another guy’s mouth, and it is unprecedented coming out of the mouth of a head of state. The cultural oddity of this is my point. Secondarily, I agree with a woman I heard speak on Rick Wilson’s podcast, that Trump is bisexual and aromantic — meaning he’s screws anything and loves no one. That resonates to me.

I find all this singularly odd. Men don’t normally talk about men this way, not straight men in any event. Even gay men of my acquaintance don’t talk this way publicly and rarely in private. I honestly don’t know what to make out of all of this, other than Trump loves to ogle other guys and wishes he could be like them.
At the very least Trump has a preoccupation with how people look. And that makes sense since television is his religion. Trump is a creature of television. Television made him and he makes television ratings with his bizarre behavior. In many ways it’s a match made in heaven. It’s also a curse for America and democracy.
Trump is not only a product of the glass teat, he got to be president by playing the character of a successful businessman for fourteen years on TV. The inability of the normal person to not know that what they see on TV is fake is appalling. That’s another cultural curse.
It’s tragic that you can’t believe what you see with your own eyes, but if it’s on television, the truth is that it’s scripted, covered in makeup, flattered by lighting and camera angles, and altogether unreal. But we believe the unreal and don’t want to scratch beneath the surface and have intelligent discourse about facts. That’s how America wound up with this guy in office. Our culture, in many ways, has simply been waiting for somebody like Trump to come along and exploit it. And here we are.
