This is sad. It seems that Vance is sensitive. He doesn’t like it when people do things against him. This was quite the place for this edict. They couldn’t have done it anyhow. But he told them no. This is Trump-style ego talking. It’s so pitiful that it needed to be brought to you. We can certainly poke fun at him for this ridiculousness. My regards to Raw Story:
Vice President JD Vance delivered the commencement address Thursday at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs — and made sure the graduating class knew the rules upfront: no booing allowed. “This is the only commencement speech that I’m giving this year, and so I’ve watched a few highlights of graduation speeches where this or that corporate leader will discuss artificial intelligence — AI — and be met with literal boos,” Vance told the cadets.
Oyyyy. No booing allowed. Sounds like a teacher on a playground telling the boys to leave the girls alone. There’s a tiny piece of knowledge he didn’t have before he went to speak. He should have researched the academy before this. But telling an audience not to boo? That’s almost enough to do it anyhow. You just wait til they’re done booing and then speak again. Vance is such a neophyte with this.
“Now, you can’t boo me. I’m the Vice President of the United States.” It was a notable preemptive strike from a politician who has become something of a lightning rod for public heckling. Vance was booed at the Winter Olympics opening ceremony in Milan in February, and again in Michigan in March after goading a crowd with a claim about the state’s educational rankings.
Gee, didn’t he think about that happening? We could expect it’s because he’s so close to Trump. But Vance doesn’t have much brain. He would expect that they would kowtow to him because he’s the VP. Well, how about the public heckling of President Biden during his speech to Congress?? It happens to everyone. He needs to get over it. But again, there’s a piece missing here that he doesn’t know. Here it is:
Active-duty military personnel are bound by regulations prohibiting political demonstrations while in uniform.
“AI will inevitably change warfare,” Vance said. “But one of the things that makes Americans unique — that makes you as warfighters unique — is that we wage war justly.” The ceremony marked the Academy’s 68th commencement, with the Air Force Thunderbirds performing a flyover at the conclusion.
Hmmm. We wage war justly. It certainly didn’t seem very just when they started throwing things at Iran with no warning. It isn’t just if you kill civilians. It isn’t just whether your bases in other countries are unprotected from assault. The graduating class was forbidden from booing. You don’t do that when you’re in uniform. Period. But Vance didn’t want more proof of his inanity by being booed. So, he said that. Oh, puh-lease.
PS The Thunderbirds are good, but the Blue Angels are better. Maybe someday I’ll tell you about a very special memory. See you soon!
Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that, of all the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
