It stinks. It’s stuck on them. Everyone is seeing it now. Trump has sullied the Republican Party. And they can’t seem to break loose. But they need to, before there’s nothing left. They are missing the obvious. And the longer they wait, the longer they dawdle; every tick of the clock is moving against them. It works for us. We can use the actions that are dragging them down. With appreciation for Politico via, and also to Raw Story:
Republicans can’t get out of their own way to tackle the biggest obstacle blocking their path to maintaining their congressional majorities, according to reporting.
A cascade of self-inflicted controversies is consuming the political oxygen Republicans need to demonstrate they are serious about affordability, handing Democrats a series of ready-made attack lines just months before the midterm elections, reported Politico.
We are perfectly happy to have it rise higher and higher, making it harder for them to walk. And Trump just gave us a ready-made line for it. They are under his thumb, too late noticing how their careers are tied to his whims and his words. They waited too long, seeing security where there was none. They seem to have forgotten ETTD.
The most glaring example is a $1 billion Secret Service funding request tucked into what was supposed to be a straightforward immigration enforcement bill — potentially the last major piece of Republican legislation before voters go to the polls.
Roughly $220 million of that request could be directed toward renovations tied to Trump’s White House ballroom project, according to a breakdown obtained by Politico. The optics of asking Americans struggling with surging gas and grocery prices to fund a presidential ballroom renovation have alarmed even senior Republicans.
Yea no. There is no telling what would happen with American voters if that happened. And Republicans would likely abandon that party in droves, not to vote for Democrats, but to stay home. That’s a win for us. We are *more* likely to go out and vote, as my household will be doing on Friday for the primaries. Voting is a right, and after all Trump has done to abandon those rights, this is something important. It will be even more so in November. Just because the Republicans are a mess right now doesn’t mean they couldn’t turn around before midterms.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer took to the floor Tuesday to argue that Republicans were forcing Americans to subsidize a “billion-dollar ballroom” while delivering “zero dollars” in relief for everyday costs.
Trump’s push to suspend the federal 18.4-cent-per-gallon gas tax might have offered Republicans a tangible, visible win on affordability, but scores of Republican lawmakers spent 2022 publicly ridiculing then-President Joe Biden for floating the exact same idea after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Backing the proposal now, one person familiar with internal discussions said, would require those members to “eat s—” over their prior positions.
“I’d just be happy if they do something,” said Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA). “They’ve been holding it up since God was a baby. Their reasons for holding it up run from substantive to ‘my dog ate my homework.’”
Since God was a baby. Ahahahaha! We’re just fine with the delay. The longer it takes, the more we have the ability to push out the extras in this thing. And why one million for the *Secret Service*? Do they need more people or something? Because if we find out any of that went to the “$400 million” ballroom, there will be hell to pay. We do not need to pay Trump’s bills. And don’t forget – Trump doesn’t care about us.
See you soon!
Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that of all of the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

I just wonder how much of the moral rot and corruption was already there in the republican party and Trump just brought it out into the light of day?
