It just breaks our hearts. No, really! For about 2 seconds. Now it’s time to laugh, because they’ve lost yet another court case attempting to bring someone up on charges regarding actions against ICE. They just don’t give up, do they? If at first you don’t succeed, try and try again … except they have lost *every single case* they have attempted over in LA. Those protests feel like a long time ago, even though it hasn’t even been a year yet. As a matter of fact, it seems we have yet to hear that they’ve won any at all. Respect to Raw Story:
A lawyer was astounded on Saturday after President Donald Trump’s Department of Justice suffered “another big loss” in court last week. Attorneys Brian Kabateck and Shant Karnikian discussed the Trump DOJ’s attempt to prosecute a philosophy professor in California for allegedly assaulting a federal officer during a protest on a new episode of their podcast, “Civil Action.” Last week, a jury threw out the Trump DOJ’s case after just two hours of deliberations, which stunned Karnikian.
That is a beautiful thing to type, and a beautiful thing to read. The DoJ is losing cases all over the place, including for Trump’s Revenge Tour™, and it’s Every. Single. Time. They have yet to win anything, including Sandwich Guy, because they couldn’t bring him up on a felony charge, and the misdemeanor was thrown out. The only crap part about that is the money he had to spend on a lawyer. Kinda wish the AG (DoJ) had had to pay for it. It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood, a beautiful day for a neighbor, would you be mine? It’s a beautiful day! (Ahaha.)
“The LA Times is reporting that, you know, they’ve filed more than 100 protest-related assault or interference cases,” Karnikian said. “Zero convictions so far on the ones that they’ve brought to trial. They’ve lost every single one they’ve brought to trial. Add this to the list. It’s another big Trump loss.”
See me cry crocodile tears while giggling behind my hand. Was Trump’s last DoJ this bad? This one seems particularly vile and inept. And stupid. They’ve kept trying and kept losing. How do the lawyers prosecuting these cases feel? Probably like idiots since they haven’t scored a single win. Maybe the big boss, whoever it is now, (or the AG?) insists that they keep going. It must be exhausting work.
Kabateck noted that the professor was accused of throwing tear gas at federal officers during an ICE-related protest. He added that the facts in the case suggest the professor was defending himself when ICE officers used tear gas on the crowd he was in. “I do wonder if this guy has filed the predicate to suing the federal government for using excessive force because he probably has a civil rights violation there,” Karnikian said.
Ooooo, we can hope! If not, maybe he’ll see or hear about that question and do so. Let’s hope he does, and he can. Since one of the lawyers suggested it, it seems like he has a case. I’ll behave and not digress into what I think of ICE/CBP crowd control methods. And so, the DoJ has lost another case. I sincerely hope it continues.
See you soon!
Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise that among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a group of elderly, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

If, he in fact, used tear gas on an ICE agent, where did he get it from? Could it be that he merely threw their own cannister back at them?
