And here we’d hoped this idiot had faded into history. Nothing could be further from the truth. He should have, because a lot of people are *angry* with him, including me. Open mouth, insert foot with boot on. And he can’t reverse what he said, as it’s definitely out there and being noticed. Could someone please go slap some sense into this guy? With respect to Raw Story:

Donald Trump’s ambassador to the United Nations stepped in it on Sunday morning with a glib and unsympathetic response to news that three US service members have died while taking part in the ongoing attack on Iran known as “Operation Epic Fury.” Former Rep. Mike Waltz (R-FL), who was first tabbed by Trump to be his national security adviser, only to be booted from the job and shuffled off to the UN after he and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth embroiled the entire Trump administration in the Signalgate scandal, used his X account to pass along a post about the three war dead.

Yeah, the guy who was in the Signal chat about an *ongoing* air strike. We can’t be sure that the mess has settled out yet, either. Waltz is not exactly known for putting the brakes on his tongue. How in the hell Trump thought he’d be good to go to the United Nations is unknown. He needs to be careful about how he says things in there. Thus far, he doesn’t seem to have made a mess that can’t be straightened out. There’s always tomorrow.

U.S Central Command posted, “TAMPA, Fla. – As of 9:30 am ET, March 1, three U.S. service members have been killed in action, and five are seriously wounded as part of Operation Epic Fury. Several others sustained minor shrapnel injuries and concussions — and are in the process of being returned to duty. Major combat operations continue, and our response effort is ongoing,” and then singled out “respect for the families.” In his repost, the Trump appointee simply added, “Freedom is never free,” followed by an American flag emoji.

Where in the hell did THAT come from? It’s certainly rude and unfeeling. Families lost someone, and he spits out a platitude. He could have at least said something to the families. Freedom is never free is a slogan. It’s not thinking and is very unfeeling.

That set off a wave of outrage, with Missouri Democratic House of Representatives candidate Fred Wellman writing, “Three service members died, and you act like it was a check. You are just disgusting. None of you give a damn about our military members.” //// “This is disgusting. Vile. Tone deaf. What is wrong with you?” asked Nikkib. //// Former Republican Paige suggested, “I’m sure their families are not comforted by these words.”

We would think not!  Is anyone thinking about the people who were lost? Or has it just become a statistic? My brother was a Marine and was in Iraq for a while. How would *I* feel if this … guy had said something like that to my family and me after he was killed? I’d be having a screaming fit! As in “what the F*%# is THAT supposed to mean?” Do any of these people have a conscience? If they do, it’s likely to be small and shallow. But others of us do. We have a conscience and a brain.

Freedom for who?” America First conservative David Giglio asked. //// Podcaster Brian Tyler Cohen raged, “Three Americans dead and Trump’s UN Ambassador waves it off with some bulls—t jingoism. From the people who wailed about Benghazi for a decade. Absolute soulless ghouls.” //// US military veteran Heather Beaven alluded to Waltz’s last major misstep and asked, “Did you come up with that all by yourself, or was it a screen grab off Signal?”

Screen grab, OUCH. Served him right. *We* will stand with the families. It may not be much of a comfort, but it would be there. The war itself is bad enough, but then add in callous statements like this, and it multiplies. Plus, we still have all this ICE/CBP shizzle going on over here! Now we have 2 fights pressing on us, at home and abroad. We have two big things and a lot of not quite so big things going on here, say, the economy? What a world we live in. Hope this was coherent.

Also, way off topic, Windows 11 is strange. We just upgraded. See you soon!

Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise that among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
