Trump announced last weekend that the Kennedy Center would be closing for two years, starting on July 4, for an extended period of renovations. The president claimed that the center’s disrepair had necessitated the closure, but those familiar with the building have pushed back, arguing that it is still in excellent working order and was already renovated six years ago. Critics claim the closure is actually a cover for the lack of performances the center is now contending with.
Wolff is a veteran reporter and author best known for his book Fire & Fury, a behind-the-scenes account of the tumultuous first Trump administration. Speaking on the latest addition of his Daily Beast podcast, “Inside Trump’s Head, he reported that Trump’s initial plans to reshape the Kennedy Center in his image went even further, according to inside sources at the White House.
“His first idea was to call this the Trump Center,” Wolff told his podcast co-host, Joanna Coles, adding that Trump asked, “Why does this have to be Kennedy? That was such a long time ago.”
Sources also claimed that Trump presented what the Daily Beast characterized as a “jaw-dropping” justification for adding his name to the building alongside Kennedy’s.
“I was almost assassinated,” Trump asserted, according to Wolff. “Therefore, it should be me.”
This is pure Trumpian logic. Trump believes he was “almost” assassinated because bullets passed him by a barnyard mile and this state of affairs somehow supersedes the fact that JFK was in fact brutally murdered on a Dallas street. And the time frame of Trump’s would be assassination is irrelevant, but not to Donald.
Wolff continued, explaining how the current situation resulted from staffers attempting to walk him back from his initial impulse.
“You can’t say, ‘This is a terrible idea. This is a megalomaniacal idea. This is not good politics.’ You just cannot say any of that stuff to Trump,” Wolff said. “So instead, they said, ‘Well, why don’t we call it the Donald J. Trump and John F. Kennedy Center?’”
Wolff concluded, “It’s a perfect Trump setup. He goes for the absurd, and he settles for the outlandish.”
Oh well, let’s look on the bright side: We won’t have the opera house named after Melania if the Kennedy Center is shuttered and barred. We have to take our wins where we find them.

I realize this is gruesome but so is Trump. I could have included the moment from the Zapruder film that shows the side of JFK’s head exploding into what snipers call ‘the pink mist’ but decided to use a still photo instead. It also gave me a chance to find a copy (and it’s become HARD to find one now) of Trump boarding AF One for the ride home from Butler after the ER docs were done. They cleaned off all the blood (head wounds including the ear which is cartilage covered by skin a LOT), disinfected the (shrapnel) wound and covered it with a small bandage. Instructions would have been given to be passed to his doctor, which basically would have been to gently wash it with soap and water daily and cover it with a Bani-Aid. Well..This is Trump and a flesh colored band aid wasn’t NEAR dramatic enough so he took to wearing what I so often referred to as an Ear Diaper. Big ole white bandage that damn near covered the ear like the whole thing had been chewed up by Mike Tyson in that infamous boxing match! He rode that shit to the WH, but that image of him getting on AF one to get the hell back to DC is one Team Trump has tried and tried to bury. Luckily it pops up now and then and I was lucky to find it. I think I’ll store it on my computer because I’m sure if someone becomes aware of it pressure will be applied to take it down.
Oh, and I get a kick out of the thought of Trump whining and cursing at the ER folks while his itty bitty ouchie was being treated. As anyone reading this knows, disinfectant even in a tiny wound stings like hell for a bit. So Trump was probably demanding all the Docs and nurses be fired and that PA revoke their licenses!
To compare the nick (again, from shrapnel) Trump got to an actual bullet to the head, a bullet that blasted away a significant piece of JFK’s skull (somehow the skin stayed attached and blew out a chunk of his brain is outrageous.
While I thought the image of JFK was blurry enough not to be graphic it’s been suggested it’s still too much I apologize. Unlike most commentors moderating gives me some ability to edit comments. For some reason the image I included with the comment shown isn’t showing up so I can change it. If I can figure out how I’ll change it to just a photo of the bandage the HOSPITAL where Trump was treated is shown.
Denis, I wish you had not put one link for both images because seeing JFK’s actual head wound is not something I even want to imagine (and never did) and the thought of seeing it at all repulses me. Please repost just the image of tRump’s “owie” by itself for the faint of heart/grossed out among us. I’d like to see the “undoctored” ear since I’m not sure I ever saw it. Just the diapered one (and the copy cat images worn by Republican Congress people and MAGA faithful everywhere). Thanks.
