Italy Is Having NONE Of It!

Okay, whose bright idea was this one? The US is doing something seriously stupid and doesn’t seem to realize the gaping pit in front of it. These people need to stay home and not go screw up somewhere else. They aren’t wanted. With appreciation to Raw Story:

Italians were angry Tuesday after news that the US was sending ICE agents to the Winter Olympics in Italy. The announcement reportedly set off confusion after the Department of Homeland Security confirmed that the unit was heading to Europe to apparently work as “a security role” for the US delegation at the international event, a DHS spokesperson confirmed with CNN. “They don’t do immigration enforcement (operations) in a foreign country, obviously,” the spokesperson said.

ICE is going out of the country. That’s a huge recipe for disaster. The Italians can do things perfectly well without sending our goons over there, especially in the wake of the new recruit disaster. And random, but what the hell will they wear over there, anyhow? Can’t run around with the giant ICE logo everywhere. Plus, they’re certainly not trained to Secret Service level and will just get in the way. This is ridiculous.

DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin told CNN that “All security operations remain under Italian authority.” “At the Olympics, ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations is supporting the U.S. Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service and host nation to vet and mitigate risks from transnational criminal organizations,” McLaughlin said in a statement to CNN.

What a bunch of hooey. They can’t even perform their duties correctly *here*, let alone in another country where they don’t know the language! The Italians have known about having the Winter Olympics for *years*. They know what it entails, and they are prepared. Now, if ICE is just supposed to be bodies to block anything getting to our people, that miiiiiiiiight be something. But having them there is a very, very BAD idea. They have no power there. They’ll get in the way and make a mess.

The move set off outrage among Italians, citing major concern among the Europeans who have watched ICE attack and kill US citizens, including the most recent fatal shootings of Alex Pretti and Renee Good in Minneapolis. Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sala said he would not welcome ICE in his city, which is set to host the opening ceremony on Feb. 6, according to The Associated Press. Vice President JD Vance was expected to attend the event in Milan, where most of the ice sports will be. “This is a militia that kills, a militia that enters into the homes of people, signing their own permission slips. It is clear they are not welcome in Milan, without a doubt,” Sala told RTL Radio 102.

Oh lordy, Vance is going? That’s another potential mess since that boy can’t keep his yap shut. Anyone want to place bets as to how fast he’ll insult someone over there? You know it’s going to happen. If we’re lucky, someone will tell him to NOT BE POLITICAL. He’s there to watch the Olympics, not shoot himself and Trump in the ass. There are better people to represent the US (outside of the athletes, natch) than Vance, but they don’t have their “own personal plane”. How much of Vance are the networks going to show, too? It’s the Olympics, not the Vance Show. I guess we’ll have to wait and see. Best of luck to our athletes, and ICE should stay the hell home!
