Did you know that it’s an insult to say Tim instead of Governor Walz, or Alex instead of Alex Pretti? A number of my friends just jumped ALL over me when I had only used their first names in a conversation, not something in public. It’s not here, nothing related to Pz. But DAMN, maybe say, ‘hey, did you know’, instead of it being ‘a grievous insult’, because all it did was make me angry.
And other people in Minnesota (mercy, folks, it’s a MESS in the ENTIRE state) jumped on me about reputable sources for my news. Well, for heaven’s sake, any one of us knows where to go that’s reputable and isn’t! I’m not going to Fox News for anything. I’m not going to use them as a reputable source. I might use CNN, or MS NOW, or Raw Story, as you know.
My husband has watched all of the videos. Apparently, they’re not as visually bad as I was afraid of, but I’m still staying away. And I just found out something I didn’t want to know. Mr. Pretti was shot BY MULTIPLE MEN. And yes, he was face down. He was trying to protect a woman. And ICE was pepper-spraying him. There were SIX people on Mr. Pretti, and a seventh came along later. What the holy hell??!!!!! I don’t understand. Why? Was this an execution of a US citizen, because more and more it seems that’s what this was?
This is so devastating to see this happen in our country. Two citizens are now gone. ICE is insane. President Trump and DHS Secretary Kristi Noem are trying to force the country into a state of martial law. If it happens, all bets are off. A pity the National Guard can’t arrest ICE and treat them just as badly as others are being treated. ICE is taking children. They are taking anyone they can just to piss off the people of Minnesota. They are grabbing people without coats or shoes and dumping them off somewhere with no way to contact anyone. The high today is -10. That doesn’t include wind chill.
But that is hearsay, because I’m passing along what my Minnesota friends have told me, which is what they’ve seen. So I don’t have a *reputable* source, going by the way I was lectured. Lecturing people outside a class or meeting isn’t a way to impart knowledge. Instead, it makes people angry. Well, it made me angry. Words are important. I’ve learned the way to say things that don’t make the other person feel stupid. I think about how I would say them to myself. It doesn’t always work, but I do try.
So, it’s Governor Walz, Mr. Petti, and Vice President Vance. Kinda takes the fun out of writing about certain people. But it’s proper. On the other hand, some people don’t *deserve* proper. I guess I’ll play it by ear and consider circumstances. If anyone can come up with a nickname for ‘Commander’ Bovino, let me know.
Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise, among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

Susan, I am really sorry you got lectured! I hope those weren’t Minnesota people, of which I am one. Tensions are a little high here in Minneapolis and surrounding areas. But I would never shame you or lecture you for calling our citizens and even our governor by his first name! Governor Walz was all about being The Average Guy when he was Kamala’s (see how this works?) running mate, and I doubt he would be the least bit offended if you called him Tim. And as for Renee (Good) and Alex (Pretty), the latest Minnesotans to be murdered by ICE agents—whose names we’d ALL like to know—well, it’s a sign of endearment to call these victims by their first names. So I would say either (a) you need different friends, and/or (b) you need to come to Minnesota and get some real down home TOLERANCE, Girl. Except for ICE. We don’t tolerate ICE. That’s why we’re demonstrating in the minutes 35 below zero windchill!!!
Three of them were Minnesota people and they are who jumped on me about news sources for the Minneapolis area and four jumped on about calling Governor Walz “Tim”, when I was using it as a sign of recognition and support. Made me remember why I don’t say much there. I generally get jumped on, when everyone is forward-thinking and supportive of everyone *but* me. The fact that I *AM* intelligent seems to get left to the side. I still care deeply about them so it stings.
Yes, I think I need to come to Minnesota … when it’s warm again LOLOL. Still, yes. Also I would *love* to meet Governor Walz. That would be EPIC.
Tim instead of Gov Walz or Tim Walze does seem a bit informal. As for Alex Pretti I have little contact with people but online I’ve used his full name or Pretti and no one has jumped on me. They shouldn’t have jumped on you either. Now, as for Vance, I have zero fucks to give. You shouldn’t either. Vance, or J.D., or Justa Dumbass or Couch Fucker or whatever. I avoid using the words President and Trump together as much as possible. If anyone wants to give me a ration of shit about it either in person or online then fuck em. Same for using Vance’s much undeserved title.
I used it once in a private conversation to indicate I was paying attention and thinking about the situation there. I *never* abbreviate names in public because I know that’s UN-cool. The only ones I do are for you and Ursula when linking to a piece, as well as bowing to your military knowledge since my brother has been out of the service for eons and I can’t ask him anything because he thinks Trump is the best thing since the wheel. Also thank you for making the point about Vance etc. I have no respect for any one of them, and not much for anyone in Congress that isn’t a Democrat. I don’t know what the hell happened with Fetterman. I was pulling for him to win his election, because “Doctor” Oz (who we are now stuck with in an actual medical sort of position with RFK Jr’s blessing) was an instant “ohmiGOD” reaction. Now he might as well be a far-right *Republican*. I don’t give a damn about him anymore and that occasionally makes me sad.
So this BS I went through could have been handled much better. All I know now is I’m still angry, I feel that they were condescending, and I remembered why I hardly ever talk to that group.
Oh, hahaha, just found this: “I’m at a total loss why anyone would take the “they’re eating the dogs and cats” guy at his word.”
I’d be interested in knowing if you’ve been getting heat for talking about “Renee” rather than “Ms Good” and if not, why the “scolding” for the familiarity when it comes to the men but not for the woman?
Usually, it’s only “official” news sources that use the Title-Last name format rather than informal sources such as blogs, no matter how big or small.
There’s been a longtime tradition on the left for calling attention to victims by using their first names (Trayvon, Breonna, Tamir, etc). It’s not disrespect but empathy and befriending (in a fashion) unless the IMMEDIATE family objects and pushes for a more formal naming. But that tends to be rare, as far as I’ve seen.
Hmmm, no I have not. That’s interesting, because the list is all females.
I doubt any of them would come look at what I’ve written, but I am being excessively careful now, just in case. I don’t want to go through that again. I didn’t even bother to try and defend myself because it would have been wasted effort. You already know the rest so no need to repeat it.
