What is it with Republicans these days? Standing up to Trump. Saying enough. Saying they won’t deal with bull$h!t anymore. Who permitted them to grow a spine? Because it’s certainly NOT something the party we (mostly) love to hate would do. (I have a sneaky admiration for Massie. Go ahead and laugh.) And it all really started cascading with, of all people, MTG. No, she didn’t start it. But she accelerated it. From Raw Story:
Another MAGA lawmaker is calling it quits after Marjorie Taylor Greene announced her decision not to run for her seat again. Congressman Troy E. Nehls on Saturday made his announcement on social media.
See? A spine. Or at least a hint of one. One of us at Pz spoke earlier this year about the potential for a lot of retirements or maybe just flat-out ”enough of this crap.” When Congress reconvenes in January, it should be quite something. We can hope that a lot more Republicans will call it quits. It seems that the rose colored glasses are coming off to be stomped into pieces. Mikey and Thune are going to be wondering what the hell happened. Open your eyes, kiddies. They need to *truly* see Trump for what he is. If they don’t? It’s not our problem. It’s theirs.
“After more than 30 years in law enforcement serving and protecting my community as a police officer, constable, Fort Bend County Sheriff, an Army veteran, and six years representing this district in Congress, I have made the decision, after conversations with my beautiful bride and my girls over the Thanksgiving holiday, to focus on my family and return home after this Congress,” he wrote on X.
Now THAT is quite a career and a whole lot of knowledge. His family is probably sick of it. How many years was it that he was away from home? How much has he missed of his children growing up? So, he said, “Enough. I’m outta here.” There comes a point when someone needs to move on. He is. He deserves to. To close, an annoying comment.
He also said he notified the president of his plans to retire. “Before making this decision, I called President Trump personally to let him know of my plans. President Trump has always been a strong ally for our district and a true friend, and I wanted him to hear it from me first,” the lawmaker added. “Serving this country in the military, serving our community in law enforcement, and serving this district in Congress has been the honor of my life. Thank you for your trust, your friendship, and your prayers.”
Still has to butter up Trump. Oyyyyyy. We can expect he had a good reason for it – to protect himself and his family, perhaps? Better safe than sorry. Nevertheless, he deserves to rest and relax. Godspeed, Congressman. He may be a Republican, but at least he earned the seat with his experience. They will be a lot happier now. And we have one less to worry about.
Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise, among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
