Can somebody please go over to Truth Social and kick it and see if it’s still alive? Because it’s been dead for hours now and I’m sure that the Republican party is dying to hear from their standard bearer on this, one of the worst nights that they have faced in quite some years. Certainly since 2020. And let’s put it this way: if what is happening tonight is the precursor for what’s going to happen next year this time in the 2026 midterms, then the GOP is screwed six ways to Sunday. And don’t think for a moment that this isn’t being discussed behind closed doors this very moment in shaky voices by trembling men.
Trump has been checkmated for all intents and purposes. The first defeat tonight was in Virginia where Abigail Spanberger won in a landslide. Then Mikie Sherill shellacked Jack Ciatterelli. Some outlets are saying that the “race narrowed” towards the end. What stats were they reading? Because I was reading the New York Times and the race was eight points in Sherill’s column at 66% of the vote counted and I don’t see where you get the descriptor “narrow” on those facts. I can tell you that it did not narrow the last twenty minutes before the race was called, it was expanding in Sherill’s column.
But now we have the trifecta, ladies and gentlemen. The cherry on the sundae is the first Muslim mayor of New York City.
But not long after polls closed at 9 pm on Tuesday night, America’s most populous city delivered Mamdani a clear victory, sparking a MAGA meltdown.
The win signals both a deepening backlash to status-quo politics and a test for the Democratic Party’s broader trajectory ahead of next year’s midterm elections.
At the heart of Mamdani’s platform are bold, contentious policies: freezing rents on rent-stabilised units, creating city-owned grocery stores, offering free city bus services, and building 200,000 affordable housing units—all financed by higher taxes on the wealthy and corporations.
Trump, of course, shot off his mouth. He will live to regret these words. Trump is now looking just like the impotent old fool that he is.
“If Communist Candidate Zohran Mamdani wins the Election for Mayor of New York City, it is highly unlikely that I will be contributing Federal Funds, other than the very minimum as required, to my beloved first home, because of the fact that, as a Communist, this once great City has ZERO chance of success, or even survival!” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
Mamdani got 56% of the vote compared to Independent Andrew Cuomo’s 44%. The Republican, Curtis Sliwa, got 14% of the vote. Ouch. I mean double ouch. Forget about it, GOP. New York City has routed you.
And not a single word from the GOP standard bearer on his personal social media site. The psychology of this is so beautiful. It is so perfect. It is the quintessential anti-Trump backlash, just as the economy is unravelling and going into recession and the night before the Supreme Court holds oral argument on the laughable tariffss case. In fact, just to make things even better, the attorney general post in Virginia, which was considered lost by many, was won by the Democrat tonight. Jay Jones defeated the incumbent Republican, Jason Miyares.
We’ve got momentum aplenty, folks. We’re baaaaaack. The Democrats are back. And this is our theme song for tonight and the pre echo of what we’re going to hear in 2026. Get ready. So far, sooooooo good!

Your “… Can somebody please go over to Truth Social and kick it and see if it’s still alive? Because it’s been dead for hours now and I’m sure that the Republican party is dying to hear from their standard bearer …” begs the question ‘How many times can a souffle be made to rise?’
That’s a good one. Never thought about that before.
*runs though site*
AAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
*stops….puts hand to ear*
That sound you may be hearing is the sound of the azzholes of the Group Of Pricks all puckering at once.
*smirk*
The shutdown will be over in a week.
Less than a week. The rats are scurrying. The Democratic cat herd is now focused and the rats are very nervous.
🙂
It turned into one of those days and I’m whipped but will turn in for the night with a smile on my face. It’s one night (albeit a huge one) and a lot can happen in a year BUT it’s bigger for us than you describe. I’d said watch the margins if Democrats pulled off wins. Well, they are better than I’d hoped. Double digit wins in both VA and Jersey seemed like it might be a stretch although I thought there was a pretty fair chance in VA.
At this point it seems certain Spanberger will win not just in double digits but in the mid teens! Not only that the Lt. Gov Race (currently held by Spanberger’s now defeated opponent) will be won by a Democrat and although not by as much as her still into double digits. That was expected to go our way but by only half that margin. What had me holding my breath was the AG’s race where there was some type of scandal with the Democrat and the GOPer was the incumbent. That one was polling within the margin of error – a tossup. Jones, the Democrat has been declared the winner and it looks like by at least five percent. WOW.
No word on the legislature. The VA state Senate isn’t on the ballot in this off-year but the other chamber (all of it) is. Analysis I saw indicates the GOP is underperforming Trump’s turnout/vote last year in every country so it looks like potentially a good night for Democrats there as well.
Up in Jersey that P.O.S. GOPer who never served tried to trash Sherrill’s military service. A cheating scandal broke while she was attending the Naval Academy and some midshipmen were expelled. She was never accused of cheating or from what I can tell even formally charged with failing to report cheating. However it was suspected she had an inkling of some ‘goings on’ and didn’t speak up. Although not charged with any wrongdoing she and I gather some others didn’t take part in the graduation ceremony. Sherrill would become a Naval Aviator (choppers) and had a distinguished career. And her now three time loser P.O.S. opponent tries to slander her service when HE never did dick?
Anyway as you say the race was reported to be tightening with Trumpty plugging the GOPer. Well, tonight with the bulk of the vote in and a big chunk to come from Democratic areas it looks like Sherrill will win in the double digits. Across in NYC the margin remains to be seen but it might not be the ten perdent Mamdani had hoped for but it will still be a solid win.
It’s looking like the CA ballot initiative will win and handily. What’s been overlooked was the situation with the State Supreme Court in PA. Rachel Maddow brought it up earlier and I’m glad she did because it’s huge. In some states, and PA is one of them after a time judges face a “retention election” – not a race against another candidate but a question: Shall judge Schmuckatelli be retained? It voters say yes they keep their job. If voters say no an election will be held the next statewide election.
THREE state Supreme Court Justices, all Democrats faced a retention vote. All were on the job in 2020 when Trump was trying to steal the election there so naturally he saw this as a chance for some payback. Apparently a shitload of money went into this and Trump himself got involved urging PA voters to toss out all three. Well, THAT went down in flames, as each one retained their seat on the bench by roughly the same 2 to 1 margin!
Again it’s just one election and I’ll keep saying a lot can happen in a year. Enjoy it, absorb the energy because we’ve proven we HAVE gotten up off the mat and can not just fight back but kick ass. However as Michael Steele noted the GOP has a plan B and it’s using state level offices that oversee the elections in GOP states to fuck around with things. We have to overwhelm the system with votes. Two No Kings protests show there are plenty of us ready to work, and tonight tells us two things – in blue states Democrats are punching above our weight (at least compared to last year) and GOP voters aren’t showing the same energy as last year.
I say we should crow like hell if only to discourage MAGAs who are starting to realize Trump’s promises are as empty as his head is of working brain cells. However it’s more important to spend less time boasting and much more time doing – actual education of and registering new voters. Then making sure they cast their ballots. AND picking the right candidates next year. That’s another, longer topic.
Good night all. It’s been a fun one!
Dennis, here is a link to the other Virginia races..

Screwing around with elections is Trump’s next move. That’s the next piece I’m writing.
Was going to caution your “We’ve got momentum aplenty, folks. We’re baaaaaack. The Democrats are back. ” in your article. Apologies, you responded positively to Dennis’s excellent but sobering article. As you are clearly rolling your sleeves up for the ’26 push, I am more than happy to allow your moment of rightful euphoria.
Ursula, you might want to do an edit because current percentages in the NYC mayoral race don’t add up right.
Currently, they have Mamdani with 56%, Cuomo with 44% and Sliwa with 14%. That comes to 114% which is obviously impossible (outside Chicago).
