We are watching a runaway freight train here, folks, to wit the renovation and complete bastardization of the White House to fit the aesthetic of the game show host from Queens. Yes, what you see above is a marble bathroom that the White House didn’t need. The bathroom it had was just fine. Serviceable, certainly, and in an older art deco style that spoke of the last time it was remodeled and was a bit of White House history. Now we have eliminated that and come up with a Trump Hotel level of aesthetic. And it won’t stop here. Trump is going to destroy or remodel the entire White House, mark my words.
That’s what the Lincoln bathroom used to look like. Totally servicable and again, befitting the day and age in which it was last remodeled. It had some personality then, one could even say charm. But now it’s copycat cookie cutter Mar-a-Lago chic, which is to say gaudy looking and that’s that.
The handwriting is on the wall. Trump fully intends to remodel the entire White House. He would raze the structure tomorrow if he thought he could get away with it, so look for him to tear down portions of it at a time.
Trump is deranged and tearing up the White House is his newest vanity project. Karoline Leavitt has gone on record saying that “the ballroom is the pesident’s number one priority.” We need a leader in the White House, we have an interior decorator with zero taste instead.
Something needs to be done to stop him and under what set of laws that would fall, I certainly don’t know. This is definitely a case of first impression. No othe president in history has displayed an obsession with physically changing the White House. The closest that we come to this in modern history is when Jackie Kennedy did some renovations in the White House but those were along the lines of tasteful upgrades, not wrecking ball level destruction.
Plus, Mrs. Kennedy went out of her way to research the history of the White House and was conversant with the different styles and periods which were reflected in its furnishing. In Jackie’s hands, remodeling was a cultural tour de force. In Trump’s mitts? Gaudy on a sliding scale to tawdry. (The gilt in the Oval Office is nothing but tawdry. It has all the style and substance of a little girl’s tea party set.) But that’s Trump’s mentality, if it glitters it must be gold, right?
It’s a shame that Trump is married in name only to Melania. Maybe she could persuade him to stop this. Not that she cares, but it would be a face saving gesture, if Trump gave people one less reason to hate him.
