Remember those ACA tax credits? The reason that “Democrats” (read: Republicans) shut down the government? We wanted these to be fixed after the Big Ugly Bill got passed? Yea, those. Open enrollment starts on Saturday. It’s going to be U-G-L-Y. We had no idea it was going to be that bad. But it is. And really, it’s about the pigheaded, self-important, malicious Republicans.

Moses Mikey Johnson does NOT want to swear in the new Arizona Democrat, because he knows she’s the final vote on the discharge petition to force a vote to release the Epstein files. And that petition is signed by some of his OWN people. He doesn’t want to have to handle Trump’s screaming. So we wait. The House has been out of session for 6 weeks and counting. From AlterNet:

Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) is calling attention to one consequence of the weeks-long government shutdown that’s about to impact the finances of millions of President Donald Trump’s supporters: Rising health insurance premiums. During a Tuesday interview with The Bulwark’s Sam Stein, Kelly pointed out that as the open enrollment period starts on Saturday, Americans will likely be in for significant sticker shock when shopping for new health insurance plans. He particularly heaped blame on House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) for sending the House out on a “six-week paid vacation” rather than keeping the House in session to negotiate an end to the shutdown.

Oh, yes, and oh, my. Just because of that discharge petition. That’s crass, Mikey. People *need* those tax credits, and need them badly. The discharge petition would come second to opening the government. Just because Adelita said she would sign it does not matter in the face of what’s happening to folks with the government shutdown. Military families are going to food banks. Air traffic controllers are working without pay to keep our country’s flights going. There are more, almost too many to list. But Mikey is just too damn stubborn and afraid.

“They haven’t been back here in six weeks. They have abdicated their responsibilities under the Constitution,” Kelly said. “They’re not doing their jobs … There are 23 million Americans who, on November 1, are gonna get punched in the face with a skyrocketing healthcare bill.” “I’ve spoken to many of them in Arizona. There are going to be people that are paying $250 or $300 who are going to be paying $1,100 or $1,200,” he continued.

Damn. That’s ridiculous. And that’s what the Democrats have been standing for – those tax credits. That’s quite a “hill to die on” and one that is based on facts and numbers. How can these Congresspeople refuse to see this? How can Moses Mikey look at himself in the mirror? Maybe he doesn’t want to see the coward he is.

Folks are going to have to give up their healthcare and hope they don’t have an emergency without it. They can’t afford this. The main point of Obamacare was to provide people who don’t have another means to obtain insurance. They can rest a little easier knowing they have that support. But now? No.

Kelly then observed that the cost difference was even more substantial in Republican-controlled states. “I thought it was kind of a rumor. And I said to Lisa, ‘hey, is it true that people re getting letters saying their healthcare premium is going to go up from $600 to $4,000 a month? No, come on,’ and she said ‘Yes, that is true that people in Alaska are going to see those increases,'” Kelly told Stein. “We’re going to see people with increases of 200, 300, 400 percent, right? And these people can’t afford it.”

Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) previously warned of the sky-high cost red state residents would be facing if the ACA premiums aren’t renewed. In addition to premiums rising by 346 percent in Alaska, they’re also projected to go up by 150 percent in Louisiana, 314 percent in Mississippi, 235 percent in South Dakota, 320 percent in Tennessee, 387 percent in West Virginia, and 382 percent in Wyoming.

WHAM. And WHAM again. These people can’t afford it. They can’t. Moses Mikey is from Louisiana. He’s going to have some really pissed off constituents if he doesn’t already. They may just get rid of him next election cycle because he obviously doesn’t give a damn about them. He only cares about Trump and the Epstein files. He doesn’t care about anything else, including the shutdown. So … he’s screwing over even more people than those in the government. It’s going to come back to bite him. Hard. Of this we can be sure.

Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise, among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
