They are not happy. He made them all come in for a bullsh!t reason. His speech was an embarrassment. Trump’s speech was psychotic. Two speeches of nothing but the military leaders had to sit through them. They started planning a strategy to NOT comply with Hegseth. And they’re worried about Trump sending the military into US cities using them to quell “unrest”.
Just another day in the life of what we deal with 24/7. No wonder they were pissed. Their leaders are losing their minds, and this could have been done via Zoom. There was absolutely NO reason for them to have been forced in and not be working in their commands. A lot is going on that doesn’t make the news. Plus, the time and expense of getting them to Quantico and back. (Yes, Hegseth’s idiocy is already known, but you really need to know how much more he’s trashed his own credibility) From AlterNet:
Senior military officers are criticizing Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth for focusing on appearance and fitness standards rather than strategic military concerns. The Washington Times reported that Hegseth’s directives — including mandatory physical fitness tests and grooming requirements — have drawn ire from high-ranking officials. One source described it as “the mentality of a mid-grade officer,” per the report. “Numerous high-ranking officers painted Mr. Hegseth’s Sept. 30 speech to hundreds of generals and admirals gathered at Marine Corps Base Quantico in Virginia as a turning point in how his leadership style, attitude, and overall competency are viewed in the upper echelons of the U.S. armed forces,” the report read.
WHAM. There ya go. He didn’t give them a reason to come in that would have been worth the trip. It was just ranting and raving and screaming for an hour. And then Trump’s speech? Ugh. There was NO reason to pull them all in for this. We can guess that Petey Boy wanted to show off his power. Well, he did, and it backfired spectacularly. And he was stupid. And idiotic. He didn’t *think* about this. On the other hand, we don’t know if he has any brain cells to use with all the drinking he’s done.
Hegseth’s recent gathering of over 800 U.S. generals and admirals at Marine Corps Base Quantico in Virginia also sparked backlash from senior military officials. The meeting was convened on short notice without a clear agenda. A current Army general told the outlet: “It was a massive waste of time … If he ever had us, he lost us.”
Ya think? He just proved what everyone was thinking. The point of this nonsense was a (very) poor reason. All it did was prove he’s woefully unsuited for the position of Secretary of Defense, not the Secretary of War. Looking good was a minuscule note that could have even been done in an email! But no. One would guess that senior leaders will already be planning how to work around this idiot. Sure, some people could use a health refresh. But. What a nothing burger. Can we blame them? No? We thought so. To close:
Another former Defense Department official described the leadership environment as chaotic, stating, “Even the teams that I was on, people were fired overnight for no given reason.” Hegseth’s emphasis on fitness and appearance reflects his experiences as a junior officer, wrote military analyst Mark F. Cancian last month in an analysis for the Center for Strategic and International Studies. Cancian said Hegseth’s remarks lacked discussion on strategy, threats, and warfighting at the operational level. In response to criticism, Hegseth has defended his approach, stating that upholding high standards is not “toxic.”
Petey Boy sounds a little worried. His event didn’t go over very well. He might have heard about the unrest in the top echelons of the military. We can hope that he’s edging over the paranoid cliff (see: lie detector tests at the Pentagon for anyone and everyone) to the point where he’s going to make stupid mistakes, like his already toxic standards.
He’s going to make more. Remember SignalGate? We can almost bet that he’s going to do something that he thinks will support him as Secretary and fall flat on his face, so Trump won’t have any alternative but to fire him, even if he can’t admit his poor choice. I’ll bring the popcorn.
Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise, among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
