Multiple leaders are discussing the dangers of Trump’s second term. How about the ridiculous amount that the Supreme Court has enabled Trump’s frightening reign? He has absolute power and immunity for anything he does as president. So he has control of the country, and the “lower” courts are the only guardrails we have, and not for long, as Trump will appeal them directly to the Supreme Court. BOOM, he will get what he wants. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. From Raw Story:

Legal experts are having a “collective heart attack” — and no one is more responsible for enabling a radicalized second term for President Donald Trump and “legal emergency” than the U.S. Supreme Court, an analyst said on Tuesday. Some people have suggested we are in the midst of a constitutional crisis, Salon columnist Heather Digby Parton wrote.. “Legal scholars, former judges and law professors are having a collective heart attack over what the administration, particularly the Justice Department and Supreme Court, are doing to the rule of law and the Constitution. Right now, the only bulwark appears to be the lower courts,” Digby Parton writes.

Gee, ya think? The Supreme Court doesn’t have to answer to anyone. So *they* can do as they please. There are no guardrails for them either. Trump is happily moving along with Project 2025 or an authoritarian country, and authoritarian rule, and becoming a dictator because no one will stop him – not the Supreme Court and not Congress (read:thanks, you wimps !!!). There is no control over Trump. There just isn’t.

The writer pointed to a 2024 New York Times interview with “50 highly respected members of the legal establishment,” where those interviewed signaled they were concerned about the second Trump presidency “based on what he had done in the first.” Some argued that the Department of Justice would maintain its integrity and qualified people with experience would continue to lead the agency, but that attitude changed. “When the Times recently caught up with these former officials, their hair was on fire,” according to the writer, explaining that eight months after Trump took office, those warnings have now prompted the same legal experts to say they are “very, very worried.”

And so are we. Anyone with even half a sensible brain is worried. But now to add in *50 legal experts*? Oh, bloody hell. This does not bode well for anything that’s going to happen in the next 3 years and about 3 months. So there has to be something we can do about this. We just have to find it.

“The court’s immunity decision alone gave Trump the green light to do whatever he wanted and let everyone else pick up the pieces. Coupled with the misuse and abuse of the court’s emergency — or ‘shadow’ — docket, the conservative majority has only reinforced the idea that the president is to be given total latitude without constitutional restraint,” the author explains. This has created a ripple effect on lower courts and issued more warning signals from legal experts.

“But there can be little doubt we are in the midst of an historic legal emergency — and, so far, the only people who appear to be preventing our system of justice from crumbling entirely are the states and lower federal courts. May they have the fortitude to hold out, or things will get much worse,” Digby Parton writes.

There is more in the article, should you be interested. So now we are rewriting history, and it’s a bad thing. How about white-washibg the Insurrection? Or his impreachments? Or his DoJ trying to make cases against Trump’s “enemies:? If you are looking at what Trump is doing, well, it’s not good. There are many. many things which are not good. No Kings protests are a good start. So where do we go from here?

Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise, among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

  1. I agree that this is the BIG problem, because Trump is crazy enough, but now he’s unchecked and unbalanced — except, as you say by all other court systems. I wish they could figure out a way of getting over their habitual deference. because this SCOTUS doesn’t deserve it. And frankly, the Supreme Court has no way to enforce its own decisions other than through the respect it earns. Which it isn’t earning any more, because they’re supposed to abide by the constitution, not make up a new one for Trump’s convenience.

    • Especially when you have two assaulters of women, one of which is a belligerent drunk, a supporter of the insurrection, who’s wife was involved, the rest cult members appointed by the worst traitor the former USA, had ever seen or imagined. Thanks America. You deserve everything coming for allowing this to occur, WHEN YOU COULD HAVE CHOSEN A DIFFERENT PATH! When do the billionaires start closing nursing homes? TIME TO EUTHANIZE us seniors…when does it start?
