Hoo boy. He just keeps sinking lower and lower. Not only has he renamed the Pentagon, he’s going after domestic “problems”. What the hell is going on with him? Is his dementia so bad that he can’t remember anything? Or is it just that he’s trying to find an excuse to do something that will bring the country up in arms against him? He is making less and less sense every damn day. From Raw Story:
Donald Trump’s threat to sic his newly renamed “Department of War” on a U.S. city unleashed a torrent of outrage and anger on Saturday, with one longtime critic suggesting it is an impeachable offense. After being quiet all morning, the president jumped on his Truth Social account to post a meme tied to “Apocalypse Now” with himself as Lieutenant Colonel William “Bill” Kilgore, played by actor Robert Duvall, known primarily for stating, “Napalm, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that. … The smell, you know, the gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like… victory.”
Good gods. Apocalypse Now was an extremely disturbing film. I’ve seen it. I do NOT advise watching it. I can’t unsee that movie. And now Trump thinks he’s going to emulate that? He’s going to take over and have absolute authority in the country? Oh hell no, we do not want that. But by heaven, he’s going to try! This brought pushback all over the US, and did so almost instantly.
Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D) was not amused and responded on Bluesky, “The President of the United States is threatening to go to war with an American city. This is not a joke. This is not normal. Donald Trump isn’t a strongman; he’s a scared man. Illinois won’t be intimidated by a wannabe dictator.” //// NBC News reporter Lawrence Hurley observed, “Not a great leap to go from killing civilians overseas to doing the same thing domestically.”
“The president of the United States just declared war, actual military war, not a metaphorical one, on a major American city, and one governed by his political opponents. In any other period, this would be impeachment-worthy,” wrote former MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan
Wow, do we agree with that. The US military is going to take over a city *in their own country*. Now, a while ago, we discussed the military refusing to follow orders like this against the Constitution. They can actually refuse to follow orders like this. But will they? Trump is losing his damn mind. He just is. He’s trying to use the military as his own personal enforcers. His orders matter. Nothing else does. The military is not a small organization.
“I normally make a point to NOT post this s—t. But this is so deranged and anti-American, everyone needs to see it. THIS IS NOT NORMAL. Again, THIS IS NOT NORMAL. The sitting President posting about going to war on a city because he doesn’t like the politics of their democratically elected leader,” wrote author Jon Wesley Huff. //// Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), a veteran, unloaded, “Take off that Cavalry hat, you draft dodger. You didn’t earn the right to wear it. Stolen valor at its worst.”
WHAM. Thank you to all the people who responded, especially Senator Duckworth, who *know*. They are putting things into words. They are showing us how screwed our country is. They are showing us that Trump is absolutely nuts. We knew that already, but it’s still good to have well-known people speaking out. We need this. We need proof that Trump is bonkers. We need to keep that in everyone’s minds and hope that some of MAGA will notice it. Additional people are good. We need the other half of the country to realize that Trump is insane. Keep it coming!
Zoomers, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that of all of the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help democracy survive. If you can help, please do. Thanks. Ursula

The trouble with hoping the military will refuse to do unlawful orders is the rank and file pretty much have no power in the situation. If they refuse their superiors can charge them with insubordination. Not only that, like someone else pointed out, the lower ranks don’t have the knowledge or understanding of what is constitutional. The other scary part is that Hegseth dismissed a lot of the senior officers, so will they stand up for what is right?
248 years building the greatest nation and democracy. Dismantled in less than a year. What will you celebrate next year America? What will you celebrate?
i think in general the brass are more aware of military justice and what is legal or illegal, constitutional or unconstitutional, than the grunts. Maybe some active service or vets will weigh in on this?
