The people of Chicago have spoken. They don’t want or need DHS or the National Guard or other military to come into their city. They are doing just fine on their own. They know that this is a publicity stunt and a lead-up to Trump taking over the city like he did DC. Well, it’s not going to be easy this time, if it happens at all. From CNN:
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson signed an executive order Saturday laying out initial plans for how the city will try to resist President Donald Trump’s planned immigration crackdown in the coming days. The mayor’s order provides guidance and directives to the city’s agencies and law enforcement “in the midst of escalating threats from the federal government.” CNN previously reported the Trump administration is preparing to conduct a major immigration enforcement operation in Chicago as soon as next week, according to multiple sources familiar with the planning.
Hell, no. Resist is the word of the month, and on to the new month that starts tomorrow, and the year. In this case, it’s a pity that Cabrini Green has been cleaned up. Those were some tough people. You didn’t go there if you didn’t belong there. Ever. But back to current times, Mayor Johnson and Chicago are up in arms and ready for Trump attacks.
The mayor’s order “affirms” that Chicago police will not “collaborate with federal agents on joint law enforcement patrols, arrest operations, or other law enforcement duties, including civil immigration enforcement.” Johnson reiterated that the city’s police force will be required to wear attire that clearly identifies them. Johnson’s order also directs city departments to “pursue all available legal and legislative avenues to resist coordinated efforts from the federal government” that violate the rights of Chicagoans.
Chicago has overall unbreakable people. They are fiercely proud and protective of their city. Trump has no idea what he’s getting into. He thinks he can wave his magic wand (that looks like a mushroom) and *poof*, the city is his. Erm no. And the Chicago governor has also spoken out and issued requests to resist in the state. Of course, it’s specifically for Chicago, but he’s also gotten the entire state ready to resist.
The mayor’s order ultimately demands Trump “stand down” from deploying military forces to Chicago for immigration enforcement – but it’s not clear how effective it will be in stopping Trump’s plans. If Trump were to use certain presidential powers to deploy the National Guard and federal law enforcement agencies in US cities, it would amount to an unprecedented move that some experts and local leaders argue is illegal. Illinois Democratic Gov. JB Pritzker has also railed against Trump for suggesting he would deploy federal forces to Chicago. Earlier this week at a press conference, he accused the administration of “searching for ways to lay the groundwork to circumvent our democracy, militarize our cities and end elections.”
BOOM. There ya go. Don’t go to Chicago, Trump. It won’t work out well. He has no idea what he’s getting into. His people won’t like what happens when they get the smackdown. “His” military and anti-immigration plans may not even be liked. They might not even want to follow orders. Well, we’ll see what happens. This may go into fire and brimstone (rhetorically speaking) when the resistance starts. I can hardly wait to see it.
Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that of all of the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thanks. Ursula
