This guy, folks. He’s just as bad as Trump, as he never actually *thinks* about what he’s going to say before he opens his mouth. He made a very telling mistake in a comment, and he’s getting hammered for it. Serves him right. From NBC News and The New York Times via Alternet:

“The information that provided the basis for the warrant to search John Bolton’s home was based on intelligence collected overseas by the C.I.A., according to people who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing criminal investigation,” The New York Times reported. “It involved the mishandling of classified material by Bolton, the people said.” But some critics charge the raid is retribution for Bolton’s past and present criticism of the Trump administration.

That seems pretty plain to me. But wait for what JD Vance said. There’s a word in there that is very interesting. This happens to be a pretty damn good example of open mouth, insert foot. It’s yet another thing that proves Vance has no intelligence, or he wouldn’t have phrased it the way he did.

Speaking to NBC News, Vice President Vance delivered remarks that suggested the wall constructed after Watergate to separate the White House — including both the president and vice president — from the U.S. Department of Justice may have been compromised, some suggested. “We’re in the very early stages of an ongoing investigation into John Bolton,” Vance told NBC News’ Kristen Welker, drawing criticism. “And so if we think that Ambassador Bolton has committed a crime, of course, eventually prosecutions will come,” he also said. “And like I said, if there’s no crime here, we’re not gonna prosecute it.”

We’re, we. Not they, we’re in. That shouts retribution right there in plain English. Shouldn’t it be the DOJ, the FBI? If this were a “normal” America, yes, that would be a major issue. But in today’s world, the partisanship is right out here in daylight. We. We’re. What the holy hell? Is it now a requirement that if you’re in government, you shouldn’t have a brain? Oh, also Ambassador Bolton? Huh?

“‘We’??” wrote U.S. Rep. Daniel Goldman (D-NY). “JD Vance (and the WH) are clearly involved in — and likely directing — the DOJ investigation of Trump nemesis John Bolton.” //// “So is the VP @JDVance part of the ‘we’ who are directing an investigation into one of his most vocal critics? Why is that not the natural and horrifying follow up question here?”  asked Professor of Law Joseph Mastrosimone. //// “It’s notable his response isn’t ‘The Justice Department is operating independently and I don’t have any firsthand knowledge about the investigation,’” wrote Business Insider legal correspondent Jacob Shamsian.

Yes, we. Yes, retribution. They’re not even being careful anymore. They say it when they want to, and it doesn’t matter that they do. It matters to us. The bar is sinking so low it’s underground. Everything and anything is fair game these days. Once again, I hope we survive.

Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that of all of the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, with the exception of one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to keep going in our quest to tell the truth about Trump and see democracy survive. If you can help, please do. Thanks. Ursula
