If people don’t think things through, it can turn out to have problems, BIG problems. If the due diligence isn’t done, there can be problems. If someone is trying to look good through some stupid stunt, there can be problems. And it bites them in the butt with additional face-eating leopards, because why not both? From The Guardian:
A federal judge in Miami late on Thursday ordered the closure of the Trump administration’s notorious “Alligator Alcatraz” immigration jail within 60 days, and ruled that no more detainees were to be brought to the facility while it was being wound down. The shock ruling by district court judge Kathleen Williams builds on a temporary restraining order she issued two weeks ago halting further construction work at the remote tented camp, which has attracted waves of criticism for harsh conditions, abuse of detainees, and denial of due process as they await deportation. In her 82-page order, published in the US District Court’s southern district of Florida on Friday, Williams determined the facility was causing severe and irreparable damage to the fragile Florida Everglades.
WHAM. Busted! I’m glad to hear it! This was ass-kissing from Ron DeSatan, and it should never have been built in the first place! Remember what I just mentioned about problems? Idiot(s). This wasn’t useful. It was abusive because, apparently, immigrants (and US citizens) aren’t human enough to be taken care of.
I was doing a lot of quiet grumbling when the whole concept came about, let alone when they started actually “building” it. I figured that since I didn’t live in Florida, I couldn’t do anything. That was an error on my part. I could have supported the people who, as it turns out, proved that this was bullsh!t. That’s more than nothing.
She also noted that a plan to develop the site on which the jail was built into a huge tourist airport was rejected in the 1960s because of the harm it would have caused the land and delicate ecosystem. No further construction at the site can take place, she ruled, and there must be no further increase in the number of detainees currently held there, estimated to be about 700. After the 60-day period, all construction materials, fencing, generators, and fixtures that made the site a detention camp must be removed.
What a glorious sight to see! The people who opposed it were absolutely right. So many times these days, people on the right side of the court cases lose, when they damn well should have won. This time they did. The annoying part is that this can be appealed, and will be (of course). I just hope the right people come out on top again. Even if it’s appealed, they’ll still have to move things out, because an appeal will not necessarily be heard within 60 days, not even up to the Supreme (Stupid) Court. They can use the items elsewhere.
The ruling is a significant victory for a coalition of environmental groups and a native American tribe that sued the state of Florida and the federal government. Conversely, the ruling is a blow to the detention and deportation agenda of the Trump administration. In addition, hundreds of detainees were moved from “Alligator Alcatraz” to other immigration facilities over the weekend in anticipation that Williams would order its closure, the outlet said. Ron DeSantis, Florida’s Republican governor, announced earlier this month that the state will soon open a second immigration jail at a disused prison near Gainesville to increase capacity.
Yea, take those trailers (and crap) there. It may not be surrounded by alligators and other things that may try to kill escapees, but they can still be used. I hate this whole idea. Illegal immigrants and citizens alike are dragged off somewhere and forgotten. They’re still human. They have people who will miss them. The whole detaining thing is ridiculous. And bonus, the polls for Trump’s immigration work are slipping. May they continue to do so.
Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that of all of the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, with the exception of one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to keep going in our quest to tell the truth about Trump and see democracy survive. If you can help, please do. Thanks. Ursula

This won’t be the end of Alligator Auschwitz straight away.
But it is the end of the beginning and the beginning of the end.
Please, for author and all people on Politizoom, let’s get rid of the idea of “illegal” immigrants. They are not illegal, only undocumented. I have a sticker from an immigration group that reads “No one is illegal on stolen land.” Also, being undocumented is only a civil offense, definitely not a felony. People like our Liar in Chief are felons.
