The more time passes, the worse the story gets. Broken promises are the words of the day. No matter what’s done, it’s not an answer, and it’s not new information. It’s bluffing and foot-stomping, and redirects that aren’t explanations. The response is demanded. From AlterNet:

During a closed-door meeting for a deposition on Tuesday, August 19, members of the House Oversight Committee questioned former U.S. Attorney General Bill Barr about government files on billionaire financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The committee is chaired by Rep. James Comer (R-Kentucky), a Donald Trump loyalist who argued, during the hearing, that Barr “had never seen anything that would implicate Trump in any of this.”

We know better. Remember that letter for Epstein’s birthday? That’s out there and can’t be hidden. How about the quotes directly attributed to Trump? Those are out there, too. That’s already proof that Trump knew Epstein rather well. Yet he *still* tries to pretend that he’s not in them.

Remember the “yes there is, no there isn’t” list? That was blatant backpedaling and attempted cover-up that (still) isn’t working. Anything they try to do to hide Trump’s involvement just makes us more sure there *is* something to the files. But they think they can still hide it, and even MAGA is getting to the, to use some slang, “show us the money”. That’s pretty bad.

But Rep. Robert Garcia (D-California), a ranking Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, has questions about Trump’s relationship with Epstein — and he is speaking out. In a statement posted on X by House Oversight Democrats, Garcia argued, “Releasing the Epstein files in batches just continues this White House cover-up. The American people will not accept anything short of the full, unredacted Epstein files….. And, to be clear, yesterday, during his deposition with the Committee, Attorney General Barr could not clear President Trump of wrongdoing. Chairman Comer should release the entire unedited transcript of his interview to the public.”

Okay, now, I really want the victim’s names to be redacted, although Virginia Giuffre’s name is already out there. Remember, she couldn’t hold up any longer and committed suicide. That’s a big regret. I don’t want that to happen to other victims, not that it’s my choice to make. Redact the victim names and release the damn files already!

The New Republic’s Ellie Quinlan Houghtaling notes, “The Wall Street Journal reported, in July, that the Justice Department had notified Trump months earlier that his name appeared several times in the Epstein files. But rather than release the Epstein files and provide the transparency so demanded by his supporters, Trump decided to go in a different direction, attempting to distract from the base-shattering scandal while seeking a new ‘list’ from Epstein’s incarcerated longtime associate and girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell.”

Give me a break. I’ve mentioned before and am mentioning again that she lies, lies, lies. And moving her to ‘Club Fed’ only causes the whole situation to be worse. She isn’t going to do him any good, no matter what was said. *Nothing* is going to do him any good except releasing the files, ALL of them. Militarizing DC was a distraction for a few days. Days, not weeks, not months. Will he ever put them out? Unlikely – unless it comes to a point that he’s *forced* to. Who knows if that day will ever happen?

Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that of all of the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, with the exception of one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to keep going in our quest to tell the truth about Trump and see democracy survive. If you can help, please do. Thanks. Ursula

  1. In no way do I trust a man who strikes me as a crooked used car salesman like Gomer to deliver anything approximating truth in any of his affairs, least of all, a fact-finding mission meant to deliver the truth about Cheeto’s involvement with Epstein. He’s not only stupid, he’s dumb and untrustworthy. A 21st-century Mr Haney.

Meanwhile, Cheeto is doing his best to act nonchalant as he whistles past the graveyard.

    • Stop insulting crooked used car salesmen by comparing them to GOP/MAGAt politicians.

Crooked used car salesmen have MORE integrity than MAGAts.
