It’s a pity the press conference only included President Zelenskyy and Trump. The world leaders might have kept it on message. But no. Trump did Trump, which means wandering off here and there into whatever issue his puerile brain brought to the front at the time. This time, Zelenskyy held his own and did not get blindsided by something ridiculous from idiot Vance. However, I’d like to start off with the ridiculousness of MTG. From AlterNet:

During the presser, Far-right Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) continued to obsess over Zelensky’s attire, referencing Brian Glenn of Real America’s Voice and posting, on X.com (formerly Twitter), “I’d like to recognize @brianglenntv for his success in upholding the proper White House wardrobe attire. If Brian had never asked Zelenskyy the question, ‘why don’t you wear a suit, do you own a suit?’ I’m not sure he would have ever worn one to visit our great and respected President!!”

Zelenskyy happened to have zinged Brian back today. He noted that he had changed what he wore, but Brian had the same suit on. Touche, sir! MTG’s addition was pure flattery to “our great and respected President”. Oh, puh-lease. Give me a break. MTG isn’t in a country at war. And Trump really isn’t great and respected. So, now you’ve had the warm-up act. Shall we move on to one of Trump’s detours?

Trump, meanwhile, ranted about mail-in ballots during the presser, claiming, without evidence, that they are a major source of voter fraud. Trump told reporters, “The Democrats want it because they have horrible policy. If you have mail-in voting, you’re not going to have many Democrats get elected. That’s bigger than anything having to do with redistricting, believe me.”

In a detailed post on X, journalist Terry Moran observed, “Trump is ranting about voter fraud. Again. As usual, he offers zero proof for his claims. There’s one thing I know for a fact about voter fraud: There is no voter fraud of any consequence anywhere in the US. And the reason I know that is that the Republican Party has proven it to me. For decades, the Republican Party has been searching high and low, in every corner of our country, for evidence of voter fraud. The GOP has been armed with vast amounts of power and money in this search; it’s one of the most massive efforts to examine voting records in our history.”

Heh, heh, heh. Trump insists there’s voter fraud. Republicans have proved there *isn’t* voter fraud. That’s almost the best part. I guess that, unsurprisingly, Trump is wrong about something else. Maybe he has to claim there’s fraud because that’s how he thinks he won, and the more he complains about it, the less anyone is going to want to look. No matter. There isn’t any appreciable amount of fraud. Oh sure, maybe one here and two there, but after all the hoorah about it, just not worth the effort. To close out our day:

California Gov. Gavin Newsom tweeted video of Trump’s comments on mail-in voting, warning, “Trump says the quiet part out loud. Turns out — if you don’t suppress the vote, Democrats win.”

Gavin should be in PR because he has come up with, and continues to come up with, some of the best trolling I’ve ever seen. Keep it up, sir. Keep it up.

Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that of all of the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, with the exception of one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to keep going in our quest to tell the truth about Trump and see democracy survive. If you can help, please do. Thanks. Ursula

  1. ” If you have mail-in voting, you’re not going to have many Democrats get elected.”

And so, right in the middle of his rant, Trump asserts the opposite of his conclusion because he forgot to add “don’t” before “have.” Senile dementia certainly is pitiful, isn’t it….

    • Thank you for your comment, Dave. I had failed to read the comments before I searched online to see if that quote was correct. That same quote was everywhere. I looked at the column on The Hill about the press conference; I was happy to see that it had a tape to watch. I listened to the tape and verified that Trump had said exactly what Susan and everybody else had quoted him as saying. I sent a letter to The Hill asking why nobody has pointed out that Trump said the opposite of what he meant. I now see that you had pointed it out. I hope that my letter will get a reaction from The Hill.
