It’s glorious! Why can’t the rest of us do something like this? Gavin has really been hitting home with some tweets regarding Trump, using his mannerisms. I do not know who specifically in his office/group this is coming from, but it’s amazing! They’re on a roll and will certainly keep going! Let’s think about how we might join in, for those of us on Xitter, shall we? From AlterNet:

California Governor Gavin Newsom’s (D) press office posted a satirical image on the social platform X on Sunday, depicting MAGA supporters kneeling and praying over Newsom — a provocative visual echo of President Donald Trump’s flamboyant digital style. The post, captioned “so nice!”, served as a biting mockery of Trump’s loyal base.

Oh, yes, it did! Reactions were almost immediate – which shows that a lot of people are paying attention to his accounts. The reactions are coming from different people for each one. I think that says a whole lot. Some of them were from people who did not even think about the possible meaning of it. They should go back and look at other tweets. Then they might understand a little better. Maybe.

One user, who self‑identified as conservative, responded in the comments: “Very disrespectful and blasphemous!” In a swift reply, the press office shared a screenshot of a White House post showing Trump edited as the Pope — a photo shared on the White House’s account in May and widely criticized for its religious insensitivity. The caption accompanying Newsom’s retort read: “oops our bad, sorry. meant to post this.” That Pope-Trump image had attracted considerable backlash at the time. The post from Newsom’s office led to criticism from Trump’s supporters, but was welcomed by liberal social media users.

I wonder why. Could it be that they don’t like it when people are throwing the same shade back at them? Hmmm, that might be right. It certainly seems that way, and it would be a challenge to reach out to them and ask why. It’s difficult to read emotions when using text, as I know very well.

“Newsom is doing an awesome job holding up a mirror to the Trumpian absurdities his followers have all just accepted,” wrote a user. //// Radio host Barry Markson wrote: “If you think Newsom’s tweets parodying Trump’s tweets are unbecoming the governor of our largest state, please show me your tweets criticizing Trump when he says and does THE EXACT SAME THING. Newsom is pointing out how ridiculous Trump is, and how crazy it is that we act like Trump is normal or acceptable.” //// Writer Christo Aivalis said, “I hate to admit it, but Newsom’s on a legendary posting run.”

Yup. I think more people agree with Governor Newsom than don’t. However he/they are managing to keep up the trolling, it definitely needs to continue. There is someone out there who does Trump back at Trump. We could hope that one day, some of MAGA see this and realize their god has clay legs, with very little to stand on. They’re not going to be over-the-top die-hard MAGA. But others might learn. They just might.

Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that of all of the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, with the exception of one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to keep going in our quest to tell the truth about Trump and see democracy survive. If you can help, please do. Thanks. Ursula

  1. Of course the republicans like to tell themselves that they are the party of ‘moral activity’ and ‘standards’.

Which just goes to show they believe their own lies, and not reality.

    Risible.

    • Isn’t that the truth? How do they think that? It makes no sense to me. I guess it’s “DON’T practice what you preach”. UGH. It makes every time someone pops one of their balloons doubly worthwhile. Thanks for the comment!

  2. Well, I guess I am one of your readers who is a devout Christian. I don’t know that it works, but I did appreciate the stuff you posted where Gov Newson put out some tweets that mock Trump’s awful, narcissistic twaddle. That was really funny. In that context, I can laugh about these religious memes too. I guess I fear that it can be taken seriously because what the current leadership is doing is __so__ wrong and violates what the prophets and Jesus condemned.

It’s like, yes, when Moses stood up to Pharaoh, that was right. However, the Jews were finally punished with the fall of Jerusalem when they didn’t listen to the prophets, thought they just deserved the place, and proceeded to oppress even their own people (the widows, the fatherless, the poor, etc.) as well as the foreign residents (yes, in Jer 7, “ger” is rooted from the word “gur” which means “to dwell” — it was exiles, people displaced by war and famine or plagues, or seeking sanctuary due to blood-guiltiness). God’s grace is contingent on our being attuned to justice and righteousness (and doing it). That doesn’t include the “trans” excuse that many Christians have seized on to evade their role in selling out our nation and national integrity to Trump and his craven minions; rather, it is treating our fellow man (or woman) like a human being who is also created in the image of God.

    • Hi Wayne!

Thank you for the interesting and educational, and thoughtful comment. I appreciate it. Just because I have problems with organized religion doesn’t mean it doesn’t work for someone else. I’m sure Gavin was parodying Trump. I can’t see how it could be taken any other way. I think it’s great that you understood that, and didn’t get all ridiculously huffy and “thou shalt be smited” etc etc etc. That’s the worst. I will listen if you talk to me, but I will not listen if you preach at me. You talked and gave some really good examples. I appreciate that more than words can say. I hope you keep reading and commenting. ~Susan

  3. It was conventional wisdom, even among Democrats, that Governor Newsom couldn’t be a viable presidential candidate because California is too “woke,” that he couldn’t appeal to moderates and independents, etc. So it’s fascinating to see so many folks outside of California cheering him on. We know that Trump hates being ridiculed, and hates when someone takes the spotlight from him. Newsom is doing both things brilliantly, with humor and determination. For now, at least, he’s giving people hope that Trump and MAGA can be taken down.
