For someone who cares about appearances, Trump is starting off on the wrong foot up there in Alaska. He literally rolls the red carpet out for Putin. I suppose that could be considered an American thing to do, but it’s irksome. As we all know, ad nauseam, this is a Very Important Meeting that is supposed to be a discussion about ending the war in Ukraine.
I say *in* Ukraine because it is certainly not *their* war. It’s Putin’s. They have no desire to be in this, but if Russia really thinks they can overrun Ukraine and “take it back”, Vlad had best think again. They are certainly not interested. Hatred of Russia is in their blood and will stay that way. I am so ridiculously proud of Zelenskyy, Ukraine, and its people.
Putin did not expect them to fight back. He didn’t allow for that possibility in his plans. He didn’t think he had much of anything to worry about, and likely, that Ukraine would be happy to rejoin and start making the USSR again. President Zelenskyy and his people didn’t just say no. They said HELL NO. There’s a lot more support for them than there is for Russia. I’ll bet Zelenskyy turning out to be such a strong leader, who happens to be fine with getting out there with his people, wasn’t expected, either.
I’ve heard bits and pieces about why isn’t he wearing a suit and tie when he comes out to talk with people. That ends up with a blowout on my part. His country is IN A WAR. You don’t wear a suit in the trenches. You wear clothes that blend in. And he IS in the trenches. He doesn’t think he’s too good to be out there and pick some random country to hide in, cover his eyes, and not want to open them til it’s over. No, no, no. I would guess that his people love him the more for it.
So if Trump and Putin think they’re going to decide anything about Ukraine at this meeting, they’d best think again. There isn’t going to be a damn thing accomplished without Zelenskyy. He’s not going to give up any of their illegally annexed land. He’s probably sorry he signed the mineral and rare earths agreement. And HELL NO would they think that now Russia is going to get them.
Nope. Not happening. Especially after the disgraceful way he was treated by Trump and Vance when he came over here. That had me literally screaming!! What kind of shizzle WAS that, anyhow? You don’t treat the leader of a country like that! Zelenskyy came out of that much better, though. Trump and Vance just showed their butts to the world, and proved yet again the “leaders” of the US aren’t leaders. They‘re hacks. They’re penny-ante players.
And Putin? He’s a war criminal many times over, no matter how he’s treated in Alaska. That is something you can take to the bank.
Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that of all of the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, with the exception of one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. tRump cares about appearances, as he understands them. It only matters if he thinks it makes him look weak. Apparently, being Putin’s butt kisser doesn’t register with him as weak. Nor does verbally attacking Zelenskyy and making an a$$ of himself on the world stage.
