Okay, not exactly political, but fun. Trump did a NewsMax interview. A couple of surprising things came out, one of which was hilarious, in my reckoning. It was said without actually saying that Trump bases his pardons on personal loyalty. We had a feeling that it was it, right? But the following will show this officially. From Raw Story;
In a NewsMax interview, Trump revealed his approach to clemency while discussing potential pardons for hip-hop mogul Sean Combs and disgraced congressman George Santos. Bulwark Editor Sam Stein called out Trump’s logic in his Saturday show.
Now, what could that be? He’s discussing pardons for people. He usually throws them around right and left with nary a thought, so what’s going on here? I bet you’re ready for this tidbit!
When asked about pardoning Combs—who was convicted on prostitution-related charges last month—Trump complained, “When I ran for office, he was very hostile… when you know someone and you were fine and then you run for office and he makes some terrible statements… it makes it more difficult.” “More likely a ‘no’ for Combs?” the Newsmax host asked. “I would say so,” Trump confirmed.
I about fell out of my chair laughing to read that Trump wasn’t going to give a pardon to Combs because he was “nasty”. Of course, P. Diddy needs to stay in prison just as much as Ghislaine Maxwell, and we all know how THAT is going. But I digress.
Trump went on, “It’s hard, you know? We’re human beings, and we don’t like to have things cloud our judgment, right? But when you know someone and you were fine, and then you run for office and he makes some terrible statements … it makes it more difficult. I’m being honest. It makes it more difficult to do.” Trump simultaneously signaled he’d pardon serial fraudster and former New York congressman George Santos. “He lied like hell. I didn’t know him, but he was 100 percent for Trump,” the president said.
“Well, points for candor, right?” Stein wrote sarcastically. “The guy admits, ‘I’m going to give pardons to people who I like and who are nice to me.'”
Ha. If he was going to help Santos, why didn’t he do it before the man went into prison, where he deserved to be? Yup, he’ll pardon you if he likes you. There’s no legal basis for his pardons. Dang, look at him pardoning/commuting J6 rioters. The only fact was that people were in prison for crimes on behalf of Trump. No rhyme or reason to this man’s pardons, except in his own head. Where is our country going with a “leader” like this? Good gods.
Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that of all of the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, with the exception of one writer in his mid-50’s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to keep going in our quest to tell the truth about Trump and see democracy survive. If you can help, please do. Thanks. Ursula
