This is another day to mark down for historians. Thomas Massie spoke out vociferously about Donald Trump’s bombing of Iran and before that he spoke out about the Big Beautiful Bill creating so much debt. You don’t criticize the king. First Trump went totally off the rails with a scathing denunciation of Massie on Truth Social. Then he got together Chris LaCivita and Tony Fabrizio to form a PAC to raise money to primary Massie. So what’s going to happen if Congress decides not to officially declare war on Iran? Trump primaries the whole lot of them? Here’s Trump publicly disemboweling Massie:
“Congressman Thomas Massie of Kentucky is not MAGA, even though he likes to say he is. Actually, MAGA doesn’t want him, doesn’t know him, and doesn’t respect him. He is a negative force who almost always Votes ‘NO,’ no matter how good something may be. He’s a simple minded ‘grandstander’ who thinks it’s good politics for Iran to have the highest level Nuclear weapon, while at the same time yelling ‘DEATH TO AMERICA’ at every chance they get. Iran has killed and maimed thousands of Americans, and even took over the American Embassy in Tehran under the Carter Administration. We had a spectacular military success yesterday, taking the ‘bomb’ right out of their hands (and they would use it if they could!) but, as usual, and despite all of the praise and accolades received, this ‘lightweight’ Congressman is against what was so brilliantly achieved last night in Iran.”
“Massie is weak, ineffective, and votes ‘NO’ on virtually everything put before him (Rand Paul, Jr.), no matter how good something may be. He is disrespectful to our great military, and all that they stand for, not even acknowledging their brilliance and bravery in yesterday’s attack, which was a total and complete WIN. Massie should drop his fake act and start putting America First, but he doesn’t know how to get there — he doesn’t have a clue! He’ll undoubtedly vote against the Great, Big, Beautiful Bill, even though non-passage means a 68% Tax Increase for everybody, and many things far worse than that.”
“MAGA should drop this pathetic LOSER, Tom Massie, like the plague!” he ranted before noting, “The good news is that we will have a wonderful American Patriot running against him in the Republican Primary, and I’ll be out in Kentucky campaigning really hard. MAGA is not about lazy, grandstanding, nonproductive politicians, of which Thomas Massie is definitely one. Thank you to our incredible military for the AMAZING job they did last night. It was really SPECIAL!!! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.”
Trump endorsed Massie in 2024 but that was then and this now. The message that Trump is clearly stating is “my way or the highway.” So much for reasoned discourse in politics. You either pledge fealty to this king or you’re gone.
Or maybe not. Maybe Massie will keep his seat and be regarded as the voice of reason against Trump’s excesses. Maybe Trump will huff and puff and what he’ll get in return is similar to the turnout for his birthday parade flop. Don’t forget Trump wanted Massie out in 2020 and he easily won his primary. Donald may not be as all powerful like he thinks he is.
Maybe this is the moment that a new faction of the GOP gets started. Maybe somebody or bodies in the Republican party will stand up to their Frankenstein’s monster. Trump was calling Massie a “third-rate grandstander” back in 2020″ and it didn’t work. Maybe, just maybe, Trump is painting himself into a corner?
So, that’s Massie scolded. Who’s next to put their head above the parapet? MTG has but will she get the same blast of Trump ire (or is it fear?). Is there a groundswell?
Considering Trump’s limited success with his primary endorsements in the past, Massie need not shake in his boots. Donnie TACO is on the way out.
