Oh, bloody hell. Ohhhhh so, so ungood. This is an escalation on *their* part, not LA’s. I just zipped past an article that said today’s protests were peaceful. That makes it even worse! And to have American troops sent in against American people in America???!!!!! I am SO angry and SO worried.
The Guard already has people there and *they* are armed with more than grenade launchers of tear gas, and flashbangs. They are ARMED. Please, let no one get trigger-happy and start a mess that *will* let tRump declare martial law! Please, please, please!
More than 700 Marines based out of the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in California have been mobilized to respond to the protests in Los Angeles, according to three people familiar with the matter, and will join the thousands of National Guard troops who were activated by President Donald Trump over the weekend without the consent of California’s governor or LA’s mayor.
The deployment of the full Marine battalion marks a significant escalation in Trump’s use of the military as a show of force against protesters, but it is still unclear what their task will be once in LA, the sources said. Like the National Guard troops, they are prohibited from conducting law enforcement activity such as making arrests unless Trump invokes the Insurrection Act, which permits the president to use the military to end an insurrection or rebellion of federal power.
“Rebellion of federal power.” Notice how vague that description is. Rebellion. Who determines it’s a rebellion when it isn’t? Or who and how determines it is? The Guard and now the Marines are overkill. It just takes one finger twitch to start a “war”, because that’s what the man WHO PAINTS HIS FACE ORANGE will call it. This isn’t even a battle, fer cryin’ out loud! And ad nauseum because I’m trying to restrain myself (ha).
US Northern Command said Sunday that 500 Marines from 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines were put on prepare to deploy orders, but one of the people familiar said Monday that the entire battalion was prepared to deploy and has been mobilized.
And while the person familiar stressed that the Marines were being deployed only to augment the forces already there, the image of US Marines mobilizing inside the United States will stand in contrast to National Guardsmen who more routinely respond to domestic issues. While some Marines have been assisting in border security at the southern border, one US official said Marines have not been mobilized within the US like they are in California now since the 1992 riots in Los Angeles.
Damn. This is ridiculous and someone is going to *really* get hurt. But you know and I know that the definition of hurt varies from person to person, let alone protester to Marine. I Can’t Even, y’all. I just can’t. This isn’t needed and shouldn’t have been done. These are not riots. El Presidente Imbécil wants to put martial law into place across the country. He’s trying to elevate this to use as a propaganda event to do just that. WHAT has half the country gotten us into? And will it be avoided? This is frightening. I’m serious, here. It’s frightening.
