Good afternoon y’all! This is going to be a quick one since I’m getting the information from a short article. Governor Newsom has earned my respect again. I was very disappointed in him with the RWNJ people he had on his podcast. It really felt like he had defected to the “other side”. I was disgusted. But this? Oh, yes, he has my respect again.
California Governor Gavin Newsom is responding to threats of arrest from the Trump administration as federal immigration raids continue to spark protests across Los Angeles. The clash has intensified tensions between state and federal officials, with Trump’s “border czar” Tom Homan warning that leaders who obstruct enforcement efforts could face legal consequences.
In a national TV interview, Newsom challenged Homan’s threat, saying, “Arrest me. Let’s go.“
Well, how about that now? *That* is a governor who wants to protect his people and show that he’s in solidarity with the people of Los Angeles. And that takes big ol’ clanking titanium b*alls to do! I’m not sure I would have had the courage.
I think he’s also saying that sending in the National Guard was the wrong way to go. I was really unhappy to hear that looting has started. Sending in the Guard just escalated the whole situation, and tRump isn’t smart enough to understand why that decision just made things worse. There is a lot going on that didn’t need to happen. I don’t think it *would have* happened if that hadn’t been done. Of course, I’m not there, so I don’t have an actual answer. Here’s the latest developments according to Newsweek:
Homan warned that officials who “harbor or conceal” undocumented immigrants could face felony charges.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass dismissed the threat as “unnecessary” and said she won’t brawl with the federal government.
President Trump has authorized at least 2,000 National Guard troops to respond to the protests, a move criticized by Newsom and Bass.
Newsom sent a formal letter to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth requesting that the order be rescinded.
The protests follow a series of immigration raids across California and coincide with broader national debates on immigration and federal overreach.
I *still* think that if ICE hadn’t made such an error in judgment on how they were looking for immigrants, this wouldn’t have happened. These over-the-top mass grabs of people, without even knowing if they were illegal immigrants or citizens, started something that’s going to take a while to calm down. We still don’t know the details of everyone they grabbed. It all started with stupidity. It ALL started with stupidity. Thanks for sticking with me!

I think these oversized people grabs is deliberate on Rump’s part. He saw the pushback on the ICE raids in other states, he’s looking for reasons to set the military against the citizenry, and where better to pull this off than California, with their huge Latin population and the state’s more rebellious nature? He’s just itching to declare martial law and give himself more power, and any citizen push back in California is going to push those buttons. How many of us did he kill in his first term (nearly a million with Covid alone)? How many of us will he kill this time around (taking away healthcare, food allowances, safety measures, weather info, unleashing military on citizens)? He is a menace to our country and the world. His untreated dementia and narcissism, and his hatefulness, spite, and abject stupidity make him a danger to all. 86/47
“tRump isn’t smart enough to understand why that decision just made things worse”.. I disagree. Well, maybe not smart enough but with animal cunning. He saw the impact of fully kitted paramilitary ICE doing something that could have been managed relatively quietly and subtly. He then stoked the community heat generated by adding fuel in the form of the National Guard, covered by a catch all Presidential Order. Unfortunately, every action begets a reaction and there are enough hot-headed fools to lend credibility to T’s rationale (something he probably counted on).
Game on. Unless the community cools down but continues protest action AND Los Angeles and California litigate (and are successful all the way to the SC), then that Presidential Order will be applied where and whenever against whoever.
I agree that Trump isn’t smart but disagree that he didn’t think sending in the guard would escalate things. I think violence is the name of the game and Trump is happy to foment it to be able to declare Marshal Law.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the looting and violence are due to outside agitators like the Proud Boys or similar. That’s why he pardoned them to make them available for this very purpose. Also to show if the commit violence for him, he has their backs. Until he no longer needs them.
