Or every week, at least. We’re fortunate that we haven’t had anything like the above picture again. But they’re just so *random*, so unpredictable, which of course, is the meaning of random. A shooting, a vehicle driving into crowds, and the latest, attacking people with a *flamethrower*. Please accept my apologies for missing posting yesterday. Things … got in the way. The news article I’m reading (and the articles before and after that), from CNN, are about an attack on a peaceful Jewish “Boulder Runs For Their Lives” event. This is a weekly happening that is meant to support the hostages taken during the October 7 attacks in Israel in 2023. That seems to be a damn good reason for something like that, don’t you think?
In the attack, Mohammed Sabry Soliman used a makeshift flamethrower (whaaaaaaat) as well as throwing an incendiary device while yelling “Free Palestine”. Ooof. I must say, even though it makes me twitch, that this was new and different. I’m *very* glad it wasn’t an actual flamethrower or the injuries would have been much, much worse. (Edit: the police found 12 unused homemade Molotov cocktails. Yikes!) Here is what we know at this point, apart from what I already mentioned. Still from CNN:
Six victims, ranging in age from 67 to 88, were injured in the Sunday attack, according to the FBI. One victim was “very seriously injured,” according to Boulder Police Chief Stephen Redfearn. Four victims were taken to Boulder Community Hospital. Two victims were airlifted to the Denver metro area, the chief said. All six victims are still being treated. (Edit: The victim count has increased to at least 8.) Go read the witness accounts so you can be horrified along with me.
And more about the suspect: Soliman, 45, acted alone and is not part of a larger group or network. In 2005, he was denied a visa to enter the United States, sources tell CNN. It’s unclear when or how the suspect entered the US. Soliman will be charged in the coming days, according to Boulder County District Attorney Michael Dougherty. Federal criminal charges are expected in the case, according to a CNN source familiar with the investigation. It is unclear if Soliman has an attorney at this time. (Edit: Soliman planned the attack for at least a year. He has been charged with a Federal hate crime.)
Heh. tRump put out a statement and made this all about him. I figured I ought to add this in. “He came in through Biden’s ridiculous Open Border Policy, which has hurt our Country so badly. He must go out under ‘TRUMP’ Policy. Acts of Terrorism will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the Law. This is yet another example of why we must keep our Borders SECURE, and deport Illegal, Anti-American Radicals from our Homeland. My heart goes out to the victims of this terrible tragedy, and the Great People of Boulder, Colorado!” Trump wrote. This makes me want to vomit. He twisted it into something about *his* policies.
Of course, the world-class jerk known as Stephen Miller had to put his $0.02 in. Blah, blah, blah. Let’s just leave it there. And now I see Pam Bondi has gotten in on the act, too. The Governor of Colorado did *so* much better than they. And it turns out he’s Jewish!
“Boulder is strong. We have overcome tragedies together and will get through this together as a community. I’ve spoken with Boulder Mayor Brockett, and my administration is working closely with local and federal law enforcement on this afternoon’s attack,” Colorado Governor Jared Polis said Sunday. “As the Jewish community reels from the recent antisemitic murders in Washington, DC, it is unfathomable that the community is facing another antisemitic attack here in Boulder, on the eve of the holiday of Shavuot,” he added. Polis, who is Jewish, married his longtime partner in a traditional Jewish ceremony in 2021. “Several individuals were brutally attacked while peacefully drawing attention to the plight of hostages who have been held by Hamas terrorists in Gaza for 604 days. Hate is unacceptable in our Colorado for all, and I condemn this act of terror. The suspect should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” he said.
(Edit: Jonathan Lev, the executive director of the Boulder Jewish Community Center, says Sunday’s attack has left his people shaken. Now he and his staff are trying to triage the emotionally and physically wounded community. Lev says he personally knows the victims, who are his main focus now.)
Hate is unacceptable for most people! (That doesn’t include ICE, at least not to me.) They seem to delight in conveying the hate of our president for “illegals”, when research shows the vast majority of them are very, very GOOD people. They’re not the criminals he paints them to be. But I digress.
This all comes back to my title. Random attacks are getting more and more common. It seems like most people rather enjoy them, especially when they are the “enemies” part of the population. But they’re barely making the news anymore, and they fade away after a day or three. Yes, I’m writing about the latest one. But CNN, while showing the attack as a banner headline, has relegated them to a sidebar, and how many people take the time to read all the way through a bite here, and a bite there? I figure this latest one will fade away within 72 hours.
We don’t need to become numb! “Give me your tired, your poor”. Yea, do that, but only if they’re well-off and white. Anyone else is the nebulous “them,” and someone will find a way to attack them. Aren’t we better than that anymore? We used to be, which is why I chose the picture for this piece, because that day and the next, and the next, and the next, and and and, we pulled together. We were ALL Americans then. Does anyone except those affected even remember 9/11? Aren’t we that good anymore? … Thanks for sticking with me!

Friends, we’re in a dark passage here. We started losing traffic last November, when the entire country got fed up with politics. Added to that have been my health problems over the past two months. We’re falling behind financially. If you can help in any way, it would be appreciated. I’m doing my best to get back in the saddle again. Thank you. Ursula

I think of the movie ‘Brazil’ (“just a little complication”) in which everyday life went on while punctuated with ‘terrorist’ bombings. The random violence coarsened the population into accepting the abnormality of their lives. Inducing resignation to the depredations of the state in this and similar ways is a pillar of a totalitarian state.
Well thank God for President Trump!
The Trump administration has announced that this piece of trash will be deported along with his wife AND 5 children!!!
