Some of us spent Donald Trump’s entire first term posting tweets, stories, and videos that argued that Donald Trump was in severe cognitive decline, such that he might not finish his first term. It didn’t happen, at least not such that it kept him from running again. It would otherwise be enough to keep one from posting similar types of articles in a second term, but there are three key differences. First, there is the fact that Trump spent the entirety of Biden’s first term pointing to perceived cognitive decline as a key issue in the campaign (Both before and after President Biden dropped out) because the president’s health is always a concern. Second, Donald Trump is one year away from being 80 years old, and nearly everyone declines at an advanced age. Last, there is the fact that Trump often seems cognitively impaired, and that’s just a fact. Whether Trump is spiraling or not really doesn’t matter, though CNN’s Jim Acosta believes that Trump is, indeed, in a downward spiral.

Rawstory documented Acosta’s take on CNN Sunday:

“Consider Trump’s latest excursion into the cringey realm of make believe – his Truth Social ‘retruth’ amplifying the astonishingly nutty conspiracy theory that Biden was executed in 2020 and replaced with a clone. ‘Oh stop, Jim,’ you say? Read for yourself,”

The post that Acosta references is indeed one stating that Biden was executed and replaced with a clone in 2020 – shortly after defeating Trump (One might presume, in this make-believe-land). The post read:

There is no #JoeBiden – executed in 2020. #Biden clones doubles & robotic engineered soulless mindless entities are what you see. #Democrats don’t know the difference. There is no #JoeBiden – executed in 2020. #Biden clones, doubles & robotic engineered soulless mindless entities are what you see.

This post is coming from the President of the United States, a man with access to secrets kept so closely that 99% of his staff don’t know. Yet he’s re-tweeting sh*t that is not only laughable, but makes his own government look stupid. And yet it doesn’t seem to register with Trump. Cognitive decline, or just bad cognition? Acosta went on:

“Rather than being led by a boring yet competent president, America has a rapidly aging and raging Oval Office occupant who needs his own executive orders read out loud before he can sign them, much like a convalescing relative going over his last will and testament,

Having executive orders read aloud? Most people want to “read them over closely” to themselves. The implication is that Trump cannot read them. But the more likely takeaway is that Trump is either too lazy or too easily distracted to read them himself. It doesn’t sound good. It would be interesting to know whether Trump read them himself in the first administration. If he’s changed to having them read now, it would be indicative of some change, of some kind.

Rawstory then reported something noted here just a day ago, that Tulsi Gabbard, who compiles the President’s Daily Brief is now going to do so in Fox News style so as to keep Trump’s attention:

Earlier on Saturday, it was reported that Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard is considering changes to Trump’s daily intelligence briefing by producing a video version of the briefing designed to resemble a Fox News-style broadcast.

NBC News reported that as part of this initiative, Gabbard has been seeking input from both current and former intelligence officials on how to better align the President’s Daily Brief (PDB) with Trump’s policy priorities and personal preferences.

The entire nation looks to the White House to protect us from violent threats both here and abroad. We also want America’s place as a global leader to be maintained. Nothing is more serious. It is breathlessly dispiriting to think of a president whose attention is such that he’s more energized by flashing banners and stock video than he is when hearing the stone-cold analysis from the world’s best intelligence agents. We want decisions made dispassionately, according to the facts, and done with meticulous attention to detail – none of this seems possible when the PDB must undergo “production.” There is a reason that television makes things flashy and sexy for the public – we are not professionals in contemplation. Neither is he, or so it sounds.

As for decline? Yes, there is some. Some of us have declined from where we were five years ago and are only in our early 50s. So there is decline. This column has also noted that President Biden brought a wealth of experience and wisdom to offset any decline he might have experienced. But Trump doesn’t sound wise – just bored and immature. Indeed, why else is he tweeting out sh*t about a man riddled with cancer who is retired and not coming back? Why concern himself?

Because this is all a game to Trump, a competition, and that’s what animates him. Hearing about China’s military development is evidently not enough to hold his attention. Instead, Trump wants to focus on “beating Biden” or some other retributive rehash. Ironic that in talking about a man declining with age, it’s easiest to point out his adolescent behavior.

Zoomers, we are always in need of donations. It’s been an especially rough month, and my own health has not been great these past few weeks, which just adds to the frustration. Anything you can spare will be immensely appreciated. And thank you to all who have donated generously already. Ursula
