“A man’s gotta know his limitations” (Det. Harry Callahan-Magnum Force)

Marjorie Taylor Greene, Congressional gadfly and Queen of House Jackassery has toyed with the idea of moving up to the Senate. While she’d said she wouldn’t run, the recent decision by current Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp to firmly say HE wouldn’t run prompted renewed speculation. So on Friday MTG again announced she wouldn’t enter the GOP contest to challenge Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff’s re-election next year.

I’m betting two things. First is that MTG, who’s nicknames include ‘Machine Gun Marjie’ sometimes has moments of clarity and one of them is that signature quote of epic tough guy Det. Harry Callahan (aka Dirty Harry) from the movie Magnum Force quoted above. It seems natural to paraphrase it to MAGA’s sometimes knowing, or needing to learn their limitations. More on that in a bit. The second thing I’m betting is that Georgia Republicans are breathing a HUGE sigh of relief. For that matter so is the entire Senate. Not the most shining example of bipartisanship but them’s the facts!

Ossoff is well liked even though he’s a Democrat in a red state. Still, he’s a Democrat and vulnerable to a good candidate.  That’s why Tim Scott, the GOPer charged with finding their Senate candidates pushed Kemp so hard to run. Kemp’s “No” is a huge blow.  Without him in the race for the nomination MTG might much things up bigly. Or worse squeak through on “it would really own the libs” mentality with Georgia Republicans. If that happened Ossoff’s re-election would be virtually assured.

As this article from CBS News tells us Kemp was the only Republican with polling that showed him with a good chance of beating Ossoff.  It cites a poll from the Atlanta Journal- Constitution showing Kemp with a 49% to 46% advantage, just within the poll’s margin for error. It likely would have been a hard fought campaign and yet another razor thin margin in that state that is red but not “deep red.” As for the ‘Jewish Space Laser Lady’ also known as Marjorie Taylor Greene?  Ossoff would send her to an embarrassing defeat. Ossoff lead her in a matchup 54%-37%.  With Marjie going around ripping on the GOP and even Trump himself that margin would only get worse for her.

Many of us can’t understand why a hard-core but sane (seemingly) conservative hasn’t stepped up to primary her in her House District. Perhaps MTG has gotten wind exactly that is becoming a possibility.  Maybe she’s not quite as stupid as she looks and acts. A little fence mending in her District and she’s a safe bet to fend off a primary challenge and easily win another term next year. It’s a cushy gig for her. No matter how badly she messes up and embarrasses her Party and for Georgia voters in general their state, her own Georgia District is all that matters.

I have to admit I was scared at the prospect of Kemp running. However I’ve been saying for way over a year that he’s got his eye on a WH run in 2028.  Whether his dreams of being a savior for a GOP that Trump drives over the edge of the cliff are delusions of grandeur we don’t know. However I’m convinced that’s what’s behind his firm “No” to running for Senate.  Win or lose it would cost time, money and effort that could be going to a Presidential run.

MTG is the only other big name, the kind with statewide recognition that’s been floated. I’m sure she loved the idea of doing her thing over in the Senate and crippling yet another institution. The House has throughout our history been rowdy, and sometimes excessively so. The smaller Senate has prided itself on being more genteel and polite. You just KNOW ole Marjie wanted to rip that collegial environment where even vicious insults are couched with some ‘courtesies’ that are (gasp!) Canadian polite in nature to shreds!

There’s plenty of time of course for MTG to change her mind. Or so it seems. If she were to decide to run for the GOP nomination for Senate she’d have to get cracking before long. A lot more money would be needed. Not to mention a statewide campaign infrastructure that would work their butts off on her behalf. Still, that polling cited in the linked article had to come as a blow to her. Given the source, people in her District will learn about it.  Maybe, just maybe it will prompt some Republican with “juice” to challenge her in a primary.

It’s probably too much to hope for but sometimes it’s nice to dream. The thought of MTG going down in a primary and relegated to begging Fox News for a gig is a pleasant one. What matters for the moment is that MTG knows she can’t win against Ossoff. And is effectively admitting it with her announcement she’s not going to try.

***Zoomers, we are always in need of donations. It’s been an especially rough month and my own health has not been great these past few weeks, which just adds to the frustration. Anything you can spare will be immensely appreciated. And thank you to all who have donated generously already. Ursula***

  1. Traitor is also aware that deciding to run for the Senate is definitely a risky proposition. Georgia law only allows a candidate to run for *one* office in an election cycle (the only real exception would be making a bid for re-election to their current office and being tapped to run as the VP candidate for a party; there are other states with similar laws that make exceptions for the VP candidacy issue and I don’t see anything explicitly prohibiting it in Georgia’s rules).

  2. I have already started supporting Ossoff. He’s a great guy and has worked really hard for us, even if things haven’t gone the way we would like. Of course, I want him back, and I will do whatever I can to help him.

  3. Mad Marge, the human attack dog, should get comfortable in he deep red district and try not to think about higher office, the rest of the state of Georgia might not be quite so welcoming to her version of Nutter Butter Peanut Butter Cookies. I would imagine ther are even people who might be considered old school republicans who have little patience for her wackyness. It may have been said by others, but I have to imagine the movie industry taking a foothold in the state has much to do with democrats having a chance of winning there.

Could a studio please move to Ohio? The big cities are already blue, so I guess we’d need you in a bumfucked region of the state. There’s nary a difference between some parts of Ohio and what we saw portrayed of the backwoods in the movie Deliverence.

  4. The thought occurred that once Empty Greene loses the house seat she’d be the perfect replacement for Jeannine Pirro on FAUX News…..
