Hot DAMN am I grateful! He *is* alive. He looks a little rough, but he’s ALIVE! I nearly cried when I read this. Seriously! However … “Now that he’s been confirmed healthy, he gets the honor of staying in El Salvador’s custody,” Bukele said. Well … if that’s what we have to settle for right now, I guess we’ll take it. I don’t *like* it, but I suppose it’s better than the opposite. I think Bukele is being stubborn just to be an ass. I believe he’s keeping him at CECOT, too. The senator made a short statement and said he will provide more information tomorrow, after he returns to the US.
The first thing we knew was that the Senator had been turned back at a checkpoint on the way to CECOT. I’m thinking President Bukele allowed Senator Van Hollen to see Kilmar after all for the publicity. The photos that were released show the Senator and Kilmar talking at this table in what looks like some sort of outdoor dining setup, even down to the glasses that have water in them. I’ll bet where he’s staying in CECOT isn’t nearly that nice. Remember all the pictures that have come out about how prisoners are treated? Yea, this meeting was in a place *nothing* like that. You can see it in the image I was able to grab from CNN.
It’s ironic that Kilmar’s Senator was able to see him when Agent Orange made no effort to do so. After all, their lawyers have been insisting there’s nothing they can do. It doesn’t seem like they even *tried*. President Bukele would look even better if they released him and he came back home, but that’s not happening, at least not yet. He certainly wants to play this to his advantage, as we can see from his comments and his Xitter posts. Van Hollen’s attempt to enter CECOT came a day after El Salvador’s vice president denied him access following an in-person meeting. Gee, I wonder why he changed his mind, right?
Again from CNN: “Salvadoran authorities have not formally charged Abrego Garcia, and are not bound by a strict timeline to do so, according to a high-level source close to Bukele, under the country’s ongoing state of exception, which suspends certain constitutional rights. While Abrego Garcia had not been legally in the US prior to his deportation, a 2019 court order said he could not be returned to El Salvador, and the Trump administration admitted in court documents he was deported there due to a clerical error.” That’s pure nonsense. They intended to deport him from the get-go. They continue to insist he’s a member of the MS-13 gang, which the administration has designated as a foreign terrorist organization. Except … he was partly accused based on an informant’s information in NEW YORK CITY, when he’s never been there and did not ever live there, if I’m remembering the information correctly! He’s lived in Maryland the majority of the time he’s been in the US!
Here we are with a Traitor Tot’s spokesman’s spin: “Chris Van Hollen has firmly established Democrats as the party whose top priority is the welfare of an illegal alien MS-13 terrorist,” White House spokesman Kush Desai wrote on X Thursday after news of the meeting between Van Hollen and Abrego Garcia broke. “It is truly disgusting. President Trump will continue to stand on the side of law-abiding Americans.” Oh, please. What a bunch of hooey. They just don’t want to admit they didn’t even *try* to get Kilmar back. That whole bit in the White House on camera with President tRump and President Bukele was staged. Do they think we can’t tell? Wait, don’t answer that. Of course!, They don’t think about such things! Do they even think at all?
To close, Van Hollen on Thursday again accused the US government of violating Abrego Garcia’s right to due process and emphasized that it was his reason for traveling to El Salvador. “I am not here to vouch for any particular set of facts or claims, but I am here to vouch for the judicial system in the United States, which guarantees individuals the right to due process,” he said. Other Democratic delegations, he said, are “in the works now,” and while a Republican congressional delegation had recently been allowed to visit CECOT, Van Hollen said: “They did not ask to meet with Kilmar. That was not part of their mission.” Senator Van Hollen *did* go and *did* get to see him. That’s something to hold on to. For now, we’ll have to wait for further developments and see what happens. 1. The Supreme Court ruled 9-0 he was “improperly” sent to El Salvador and to “facilitate his return.”
2. The Trump DOJ admits Abrego Garcia was sent in error to El Salvador.
3. Abrego Garcia was given a work permit in 2019 (Trump Admin 1), and he checked in annually with ICE.
4. The 2019 immigration ruling says he can’t be deported to El Salvador.
5. His paperwork says he had “no criminal history.”
6. There was a double-hearsay accusation by a disgraced cop in 2019 that he had an “MS-13 affiliation,” and on that basis he could be deported to a country other than El Salvador. Still, he got a work permit.
7, Whether Abrego Garcia is “good” or “bad,” he is entitled to some due process in the United States.
8. El Salvador has facilitated the return of other people back to the U.S. before.
9. The U.S. has frequently extradited non-citizens it has alleged to be the worst drug dealers and gang members in the world to have trials in the U.S. and serve life sentences in U.S. prisons.
10. If there is evidence of Abrego Garcia committing crimes, he should be held accountable once the evidence is presented.

I disagree with those in the media (and even courts) who refer to what was done to Abrego Garcia as a “deportation.” I don’t know if any garden-variety deportations (you know, due process ones) are still happening during this Trump regime, but not one of them I see in the news meets the definition. These are kidnappings, snatchings, disappearances, and not in any way covered by color of law.
I am thankful to know I was wrong in believing Trump was fighting so hard because Abrego Garcia was already dead. I am happy for him and his family that he has been seen and appears to be healthy. I am sure that Sen. Van Hollen has let Abrego Garcia know he is cared about by millions of people and that this will give him strength as he is returned to the CECOT dungeon.
