You gotta love this shizzle. It’s angering and unexpected and ridiculous. From CNN: The commander of the base has been removed due to “loss of confidence in her ability to lead,” This crap is ridiculously petty. “Actions to undermine the chain of command or to subvert President Trump’s agenda will not be tolerated at the Department of Defense,” Chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell wrote in a statement posted to X on Thursday announcing the removal of Susannah Meyers.
This has to do with an email. Following Vance’s visit to the island in late March, Military.com reported that Col. Susannah Meyers sent out an email to the space base pushing back on the vice president’s actions and comments during the trip. Parnell included a link to the Military.com story in his X post. The news site reported the ousted commander wrote in an email, “I do not presume to understand current politics, but what I do know is the concerns of the U.S. administration discussed by Vice President Vance on Friday are not reflective of Pituffik Space Base.” Colonel Shawn Lee took over Meyers’ position, according to a press release from the Space Operations Command.
My eyes are rolling back in my head and coming up lemons. I guess you are no longer allowed to think in the military. I expect she was pretty accurate after meeting with the Vances. More from CNN: “The removal highlights continued moves for United States control over Greenland as President Donald Trump has vowed to acquire the island “one way or another,” and Vance has repeatedly claimed the island is vulnerable and that the US had “no other option” than to ramp up its presence there.” Oh, please. They’re so full of it.
During the Vance’s visit, JD made a high profile (again, ugh) statement for the case of American control for the island, which is currently a semiautonomous territory of Denmark. He said, again, “Greenland would be better off “coming under the United States’ security umbrella than you have been under Denmark’s security umbrella.” This is getting SO OLD and he’s going to keep harping on it for who knows how long. Right now, I’m not sure what could happen in the future, so I can’t make any new guesses as to how long this is going to continue. And if the good part of the American population is tired of this, I expect Greenland and Denmark are even *more* tired of it.
Last but certainly not least, from CNN: Trump has also been vocal about his goal to acquire Greenland and has said he “won’t take anything off the table” to obtain the island, including military force, but that there is a “good possibility” it won’t be needed. He also has confirmed he has “absolutely” engaged in serious discussions about the potential annexation of Greenland. Once again, he doesn’t understand that no means no.
So, yea, the commander was removed for expressing an opinion, and probably an accurate one. I expect the base keeps up with news of the US and JD and tRump’s posturing. If they know the island and know the people, *they* understand no means no. We can only hope the new commander will understand that and do his share, but NOT put it in an email. But no matter what, “taking” Greenland got old the second time JD and Agent Orange said it.

This is such a stupid statement, Greenland has always been under the USA’s security umbrella since WW2, then afterwards as part of NATO. Further, if anyone has REDUCED Greenland’s military security, it IS the USA – which used to have well over a dozen military bases spread over the island but scaled back to just one.
If ANY country is to blame for Greenland being ‘at risk’ it’s the USA.
Like every other country, Greenland is asking,”Why should we trust the USA on anything ?”
It is really important to understand that Pituffik is a US Space Force base, but it is also home to forces from Greenland and Denmark. In fact, by agreement, the Danish flag flies side-by-side, not subordinate to, the US flag!! I guarantee that Col. Meyers knows a great deal more about keeping countries safe with good international relations than ANYONE in the Trump administration!! BUT:

As for the rest of the “Greenland Conundrum,” the answer is the same as everything else in this administration, without exception; Follow. The. Money.!! Greenland’s rare earth minerals, and the tech bros who depend on them, are all that is really important to Vance and Trump! Ka-ching! 💰
The firing of Meyers has come less than a week after the firing of US Navy Vice Admiral Shoshana Chatfield from her position at NATO! I’m going to repeat what I said to you, Susan, a few days ago about that because it also speaks to tonight’s news that a judge has given the go-ahead to deport Columbia student Mahmoud Khalil.
🤬🤬 I was angry, of course, at the news this morning that Trump/Hegseth fired US Navy Vice Admiral Shoshana Chatfield from her position on the NATO military committee, the only woman on the committee, for being too woke. [Her successor is a male Vice Admiral whose qualifications are virtually identical to Chatfield’s, including once being president of the Naval War College.] Not surprising from these anti-DEI clowns. But, this news comes one day after the cringe meeting with Netanyahu in the Oval Office. I can’t be the only one to notice by the name Shoshana*, she is JEWISH! Can we now have Marco Rubio deport Trump and Hegseth for not just writing college newspaper op-eds, but acting on their anti-Semitism?! 🤬🤬

To me it seems like Hegseth is just getting started and Trump will go along with whatever he recommends. The number of women in important commands being relieved of duty is increasing and now that the ball is rolling ANY woman in command of other troops is on the chopping block. Little Petey is I suspect butt-hurt that back in his active duty days a superior (not just in rank but ability) put him in his place and now he gets to get payback! Trump could care less. I’m sure he wants ‘big strong men” (who will come to him with tears in their eyes about how awesome he is and his policies are of course!) in charge but he wouldn’t bother firing women commanders unless they publicly said something he didn’t like. And most in the chain of command don’t speak out publicly all that much to begin with. When they do they are careful not to undermine any President or administration. With the troops they are slightly more forthcoming, but from where I sit in Greenland the message was meant to convey a ‘What Vance keeps harping on publicly is something you shouldn’t take to heart. WE will continue to perform our mission to the best of our ability and with each other and the community avoid political stuff. Let them do what politicians do but keep your focus on your actual duties.’ Alas, that was insufficiently “loyal” and an excuse to sack another woman in command. I wonder how many highly competent women we’ve spent a fortune training will say to hell with it and resign their Commissions as soon as practical. Take those skills (and often high level security clearances) to the private sector? And the negative impact it all will have on our National Security. But little Petey ‘He-Manseth can strut around like a bantam rooster. I wonder how many women he will sexually harass, demanding “favors” to keep t their jobs? Hell, I’m sure it’s already started.
I just wonder why it is that, in all his efforts to rename practically everything under the sun and remove all hints of “DEI,” Drumpf hasn’t renamed the US facility to something utterly silly like “Drumpf Space Base?” I mean, the name was only changed from “Thule” to “Pituffik” just over 2 years ago during that “DEI” administration run by “Sleepy Joe” (literally, it was officially changed on April 6, 2023). Yet, Drumpf has NOT changed it or made any mention of changing it (not publicly that I’ve heard) in all his talk of “annexing” Kalaallit Nunaat.
