I would not want to be an intelligence operative or a member of the military right now. I would be scared out of my mind that I was either going to be compromised, exposed, or out and out killed by the rank incompetence which is being displayed daily by members of the Trump administration. Worse than the incompetence is the lack of remorse or belief in being accountable. We all recall Tulsi Gabbard sitting in congress, Sphinx-like, and stating in a monotone, “I don’t recall _______.” (Fill in the blank.) The Director of National Intelligence doesn’t “know” or “doesn’t recall” things of the level of significance as were exposed in SignalGate? And that is supposed to be an acceptable answer?

These people are going to get somebody killed. I don’t think it’s a question of if anymore, only a question of when. Plus, people at the Pentagon are working against Hegseth. They don’t respect him. This is shown by the recent stories breaking in the news about how Hegseth takes his wife to meetings that she does not have a security clearance for and Hegseth’s brother is one of his paid aides — rather interesting for people who claim that “merit” is the only criteria for hiring, eh what?
Taken individually, the revelations about his brother’s job and his wife’s access are certainly important in their own right. But let’s not overlook the story behind the stories: It appears increasingly obvious that there are some people at the Pentagon who’ve learned some unfortunate things about Hegseth, and they’re suddenly eager to share that information with journalists.
Or put another way, two months into Hegseth’s tenure, he’s generating the kind of chatter that his respected and qualified predecessor didn’t have to worry about at the department he ostensibly leads.
It’s a problem for the Pentagon chief that there’s evidence of his incompetence and failures, but it’s just as notable a problem that there are DOD insiders who are apparently willing to talk to reporters about his incompetence and failures.
That pretty much says it all. And do not expect things to get better. Not when Trump is unwilling to admit that he made a mistake about any of these people. And we won’t even begin to talk about Kash Patel.
