He implies that the department should focus on training and warfighting and anything else is a distraction. If you’ve ever seen a sandstorm or a flood, you know that’s nonsense. ANY organization’s fighting team knows that you have to take the weather into account.
How many times has the National Guard been called out to help with wildfires, and once in a lifetime, repeated floods or severe hurricanes this year? They are being deployed to the southern border to help with climate-driven migration. This will compete for manpower and resources with military support to disaster relief operations. But the climate has nothing to do with this.
Military bases are being affected. For example, Naval Station Norfolk—the world’s largest naval base—now experiences frequent tidal flooding that disrupts operations and damages infrastructure. Training and practice to build cohesive units is all well and good, but it doesn’t help if the place is affected by some weather-related event and unavailable. But the climate has nothing to do with this.
Hegseth has no idea what he’s doing. His short stint in the Armed Forces in no way prepared him for the responsibilities he now holds. If he was smart, he would get a couple of advisors with experience to guide him with this. He’s not that smart. He’s all bluff and bluster. I would think most people know he is. But he keeps trying to prove he can do the job and it’s not working.
No wonder people fought so hard to not confirm him for the position. Those people knew better. But he made it anyhow. Fortunately, he’ll have a hard time wrecking the whole DoD in 4 years. It’s big enough now to come through his stewardship and not be too badly damaged. How many people in the Armed Forces know more than him? How many people are working on phrasing “requests” to him to get what they need in words he can understand?
He’s an embarrassment to the US (of course, tRump is too). Who had the bright idea of letting him speak at that overseas conference? As a matter of fact, why did they let Vance speak there? They totally ruined the reputation of the US, not that we had much of one left before that. If they were trying to prove the mightiness of the US, they failed miserably. They made us look arrogant and stupid. They made us look small and petty. The other countries knew to start pulling away from the US because we’re no longer reliable. We stand in judgement over them. What nonsense is that?
I wish we could fire him and get someone in with experience, who knows how to handle such a large organization. Not gonna happen. So we get to suffer and cringe every time he says something in public. I’m thinking that will happen a LOT.

🤪 Ain’t it amazing? SecDef wants fitness training and lethality training, whatever that is, so soldiers can reach into an enemy’s chest and rip out the still beating heart!! Or something. But, warfare is really becoming more technological and Hegseth is apparently clueless about what climate issues can do to your tanks and drones and robot dogs!!
His heart-ripping humans have difficulty in floods and muck and mire; not to mention tornadoes and sandstorm! Now try throwing your tech into those conditions and your fighters aren’t just hunkered down waiting for storms to pass; they have to be towed by other machines and/or specially cleaned of mud, water, and sand because of sensitive robotics. That means new types of maintenance. You can’t depend on a highly-trained heart-ripping monster to also be your robotics specialist. You might have to rehire the soldiers who excel at that skill. I hear women have the special intelligence for those jobs, but Hegseth is dumping them all!! 🤬🤬
Even more reasons he should not have been confirmed! My brother was in Iraq and told the family about the weather troubles they had, including him being in a tent, which doesn’t exactly protect from the elements….
Not just Norfolk. NAS Pensacola. Eglin AFB and Hurlburt Field. Tyndall AFB in Panama City FL and Naval😄Support Activitirs.Every base in Jacksonville FL. Homestead Reserve base. MacDill.AFB. And that’s just FL.
Charleston AFB.Pope AFB. Seymour Johnson AFB.Langley AFBDover AFB. Oceana,,Norfolk and VA Beach.McGuire AFB.Coast Guard Training Base,Mobile.I could list all of them.in Alaska,CA, Oregon,Washington State,,Texas, but it would take me an hour. The South will be hurting badly. and all.those Trumpies with jobs on bases are gonna be sucking.
I was using Norfolk as a single example as opposed to listing everything I could find because if people like you want to learn more, they can find the others. No slight intended to the bases except Norfolk.
Hegseth is the epitome of ignorance and arrogance in the flesh. I don’t know if the cabinet Sir Liesalot has assembled actually believes the bullshit that spills from their oral orifices or if they just don’t care because they feel above and insulated from such considertaions, either way they are a clear and present danger to the republic and the world. Down here in the peanut gallery it’s one more reason for a restless night of sleep.
