As we watch markets slide faster every day, tariffs continue to be worrisome for those who have stocks. I’m pretty sure this is hitting retirement plans and not in a good way. And I’m pretty sure it’s hurting us all around for a bunch of other things, too.
President tRump is speaking at a meeting for the quarterly Business Roundtable, and it should be interesting what he says. I’m hoping there will be leaks so the rest of us know what his latest insanity plan is. Some people who will be at this meeting include Apple CEO Tim Cook, JP Morgan Chase’s boss Jaime Dimon, GM Chief Mary Balla, and Walmart CEO Doug McMillan, who are BRT members. Quite a rarefied list, there. Impressive.
Businesses do not like it when their stocks are sliding downwards. They don’t like losing money. So, these on-again, off-again tariffs need to stop. Now, as a matter of opinion, they can afford the money losses because they have goo-gobs of money, but the people who have invested in that stock can’t. And of course they want their stocks to do better, even in that snooty atmosphere. I do find it interesting how far the stock market has slid down. Everyone’s stocks seem to be taking a beating, so it’s not just a little bit here or there. It certainly would make *me* think twice about investing. Who knows when it will come back?
I actually did not remember how closely the stock market and tariffs were linked. That’s embarrassing. I’m so tired of the Mango Mandarin and his tariffs matches. The things he is doing are over-the-top. Nice way to put your neighboring countries on notice that the US is run by a self-serving idiot. And it sucks for the little people like us. However, I think reciprocal tariffs are showing Canada, at least, is pushing back. Go Canada! And I think their new leader knows *exactly* what Agent Orange is trying to do. I’ll bet he is ready for this nonsense. But I’ve talked about tariffs before.
I’m exhausted from these games. They’re hurting US citizens. I expect they are hurting Canadian citizens. I do not believe that tariffs will make us rich. As a matter of fact, prices are skyrocketing. Our most recent grocery run was stunningly expensive. And it’s all a result of this tariff, this trade war. Okay, maybe not all, but some. I don’t need to generalize because I can’t say something with less than a 100% surety that it’s accurate.
I haven’t even gotten to the tariffs on other countries. I think DonOld is trying to be heavy handed with them, too. He’s driving us into an isolationist country because the great and powerful Oz (aka the Confused Carrot)is trying to show how strong we are, and won’t admit that this is Not Working. The rest of the world has to now be really laughing at us. But I’ve talked about that before, too. Time to close. Thanks for sticking with me!
*****And now, please read a very special request from our awesome boss******
Friends, if you can afford to support the site with a donation or if you want to go ad-free with a subscription, it would help us continue the work. I’m sure the rest of the Democrats will tune back in in the due course of time but for right now only the hard core political junkies are here and we thank you for being one of those. We have a long, hard task ahead of us to get out of this mess and it all begins with having information. Ursula

All he has done is prove that no-one with any sense of any sort would sign any agreement with the USA and expect it to be honored.
As Canada found with a treaty TRUMP HIMSELF signed.
The only thing that can be trusted now is that America can’t be.
Trump thinks this shows strength.
It doesn’t, it shows incredible weakness, that is damaging and will damage America more than we can know.
My biggest fear is I don’t understand how Ukraine will come out of this war in any decent shape. tRump is probably expecting them to give up everything for Russia and that ain’t gonna happen. Yet another sign that America can’t be trusted. He’s getting rare minerals and earths as it is. Yeah, they’re tired of war, but they are still their OWN people and not Russian. This crap we’re trying to pull is disgusting.
I certainly remember the new trade agreement. He was crowing about *that* one for it felt like weeks (ugh)
It’s sad. No one will trust us. And it’s embarrassing. If I’m speaking to someone in another country, I don’t want to tell them I’m in the US.
🤯😱🤡 Holy Crap! The tariffs will destroy everybody’s personal economy and today, because we can’t allow Sphincter Face’s pet Nazi to suffer, The Big Sphincter:
1. said he would personally buy a Tesla (BS promise)
2. filled the White House lawn/showroom with Tesla models so POTUS could continue to act like a bullying car salesman
3. BROKE ETHICS AND LAWS DOING #2 (of course a proud felon don’t care)
4. Threatened thousands of citizens, who are exercising 1st amendment rights, that their boycott and protest of Tesla is domestic terrorism and they will suffer major consequences!!!
Makes me wanna go “terrorize” a Tesla dealership!
Next step: “I have just signed an Executive Order mandating purchases of Teslas until all 330 million of you disgusting ingrates have at least one!” 💩🤬💩🤬
Is he not so full of it that he squishes when he walks? And ew what a horrifying image. I never felt he’d actually buy one. He has a motorcade! What would he need a car for?
2 and 3 yea he doesn’t care. Not in the slightest.
4 really gets me. REALLY gets me. He’s such a schoolyard bully. I would think any number of lawyers would be happy to get involved with such a blatant strike against their First Amendment rights, or at least I would hope so. But that’s just a guess.
Teslas are too damned expensive. And where in the hell do you get them charged if you are going on a trip?
Corporations are fictional entities designed to maximize profit.
That’s pretty much the ONLY responsibility of the Board of Directors and, primarily, the CEO
So, while these rich sh*t-pokes have gobs of fat stacks, if they want to keep their overpaid jobs, they need to turn this around and quickly.
Corporations live quarter-to-quarter so it had better happen soon.
Good point, Michael, seldom stated. Corporate profits are all that directors and shareholders care about. If that’s threatened or, even worse, actually endangered, by oh let’s see TARIFFs for example, then huge pressure from the business community will be applied not just to the Trump/MAGAt regime but to all those asslicking GOPers in Congress who are enabling all this shit with their cowardice. Trump and his hired goons aren’t smart enough to be manipulating the market for their own gain; but they’re stupid enough to mess it up enough to get big biz very angry indeed.
If we’re lucky, biz will apply the pressure that Republicans won’t. Not holding my breath.
When I was full-time employed, our team was part of the layoffs because the company had a crap quarter. Yep, definitely live on quarter-to-quarter.
