You keep thinking that Trump will hit a bottom at some point and it will never happen. The man is beyond all human norms. The world saw the tag team of J.D. Vance and Trump attack President Zelensky in the Oval Office last Friday. But Trump has done his spin on this and now he says that Zelensky needs to “go in front of cameras” and “apologize for his behavior” — when he was the victim. This is to further the negotiation over mineral rights. And that’s pre-supposing that Zelensky intends to do such a deal and not just take assistance from Europe. Hit this link to see the video.
“But after Friday’s Oval Office dust-up, Republicans don’t care if peace happens with Zelensky in charge or somebody else, although nobody is saying yet who they think a suitable Zelensky replacement could be.”
There is nobody else. There’s no way that Zelensky will step down — although he did propose that idea if that would get a peace deal. That was a couple of weeks ago. So Zelensky is putting his people and his cause first, not like Putin and Trump who put their egos and their ambitions first.
It’s amazing to me that the “dust up” is being blamed on the victim. Vance attacked Zelensky and then Trump followed suit. But then it shouldn’t be surprising. Trump blamed E. Jean Carroll for the civil rape trial and she was the victim. At least we were spared the spectacle of him asking Carroll to apologize. But now we have him demanding that of Zelensky.
And Vance and Trump might fool MAGA with this ploy but they’re not fooling anybody else. Even the Wall Street Journal tore into Vance. They said he chastised Zelensky “like he was a child late for dinner.” And they said that Vance wasn’t a good “wannabe diplomat.” That’s putting it mildly.
Let’s see what Zelensky does. I will completely understand if he goes along to get along and gives Trump what he wants. Unfortunately, if he does that, he opens the door for the exact same thing happening again and always. Once you knuckle under to a bully it never stops.
Or, Zelensky may not need the minerals deal. It was not a good deal when last we looked at it. It was a terrible deal in fact. And with Europe uniting to help Zelensky, it may not be needed.
It’s hard to say. We are literally looking at a global realignment of power here. George Marshall’s 1948 plan which has kept the peace and made America the Shining City On The Hill is in the process of being tossed overboard by DOGE. The rest of the world knows it.
Europe and the NATO powers do not trust the Trump/Vance circus show. They’re making plans to stand alone with a European Army. That may be the way that this goes.
Zelensky has nothing to apologize for. Trump lost his temper with him, not the other way around. Vance was a complete churl. He deserves no respect from anybody after the meanspirited and immature way he handled the Oval Office encounter. We have a couple of complete boors running our government, ladies and gentlemen. Not that that is new information.
I can’t wait to see what Zelensky does and how he handles it. What I fear is that if he would make some token apology it would not be enough for Trump, and Trump would just keep demanding that Zelensky abase himself further. As I’ve always said, there is no low they won’t go and right now it appears that Trump will only feel satisfied if Zelensky grovels and begs and Trump can revel in his sick power.
God I hate to see this happening in America. This is one of the most disgusting things Trump has ever done and that’s saying a mouthful.

I suspect (and hope) that the shameful Oval Office spectacle was the last straw for President Zelensky. He’s known ever since that infamous “perfect phone call” with Trumpler that he was dealing with an asshole. He knows you can’t reason with or cajole or make nice with an asshole; it doesn’t work. All you can do is walk away and deny the asshole his anticipated jollies in humilating you.
