One doesn’t have to be a Christian to appreciate the deep underlying message within what has become my favorite portion of the Gospels, the one in which Jesus tells people to avoid being jackasses. No parable here, no symbolism, no second level, it’s pretty straightforward.
“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” (Matthew 6:5-6, NIV)
Right. If one is the least bit spiritual, then it seems to me that the beginning and end point in one’s reaching out to something or someone higher is that communication, done best alone (Or a group that is retreated into the background), concentrated on, and for one’s own spiritual purpose – not to be sending a message to those around you. And so you would think, with Jesus having been painfully clear on this point, he wouldn’t be down for going on social media to pray, to look down on others, and especially not to beg for money. Does no one else see the irony in someone telling others that the way to make money is to send it in to them? And if God answers prayers for money, then why are certain pastors always begging people to send checks?
This is Paula White, “our” (Because she’s a paid government official) White House Faith Director, telling Americans that they best send her money, or else!
“I’m challenging you to sow $133 for Proverbs 1:33. ‘Whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm.’ If you absolutely cannot join in sowing $133 for Proverbs 1:33, because I believe it’s so important to stand on God’s word, then sow your very best.”
Proverbs really is a great start. Sure, it’s Old Testament, but the best of the Old Testament. And yet one cannot help but notice that the $133 is linked only to the Chapter and Verse. The actual dollar figure isn’t actually mentioned in the scripture. It is almost like God meant “listen” to be read as “follow God’s teachings” and not so much listen to where to send money. It sure looks like a big oversight, perhaps they can fix it in the next print edition. But wait, there’s more. If you absolutely cannot afford the $133 – shame on you! You’re going to hell. But if you can’t afford it and still want to hedge, there’s a chance!
“As you sow your favor seed today, a seed of $52 or more, standing on Esther 5:2. ‘For she obtained favor in the king’s sight.’ This is an act of faith, just like Queen Esther did in reaching to touch the top of the king’s scepter in faith in Esther 5:2.
“It’s the chief place. It’s the same thing as touching Jesus. Touch the top and maybe you can stand with me and give a sacrificial offering to stand with Paula White Ministry. I need you right now.
No, Paula – it is actually not the same thing as touching Jesus. No problem asking people to help out your ministry, but please – for those of us who believe in the same Jesus, try not to equate yourself to someone who truly is touched by their faith, whether through Jesus, nature, whatever – just… just let it be. But I get the sense that you’re not done, Paula?
“Or make that sacrificial offering of $414 for Esther 4:14. ‘For if you remain silent at the time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish
Four star flare for a four-Benjamin prayer, at Four Star weekday rates! Drop $414 and your father’s family won’t be killed. Isn’t there a name for this type of prayer? I think it goes by extortion if the threat is backed up. So Paula needs to make a decision. If she really believes that she is laying down the gauntlet here and $414 can save someone’s father’s family (Isn’t that the person in place?), then she really is extorting people. Of course, she can and will say that she was merely encouraging people and no one was to take this seriously anyway… The ultimate defense.
Too bad. I am a firm believer in prayer or meditation. Especially with all our screens nowadays, for no greater purpose than to retether yourself. Prayer or meditation is a great way to find your center again. It is just given such a bad name. I think that Jesus really was on to something. Sad that some Christians can go so far afield as to wonder what exactly is “Christ-like” in their Christian message.
Pastor Paula White, director of the White House Faith Office, is "challenging you" to give her money so that God can bless you. You can give her "a sacrificial offering" of $133, $52, or $414. pic.twitter.com/PioLH2h8bE

Friends, we are struggling to make ends meet. It’s not just us, it’s industry wide. There are star hosts being bumped on MSNBC as we speak. (Joy Reid and Alex Wagner) So if you can afford a small donation or a monthly subscription, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Ursula

and exactly who in the white house is getting this money? sounds like a taxable moment to me
This is why he likes televangelists. They are grifters like him. That’s what he thinks religion is-one big con.
One correction…her ‘jesus’ is an imposter, so we don’t believe in the same Yeshua.
I received an email today from Catholics fir Choice. It included a suggested preayer for Pope Francis (no pressure – take it or leave it. And the print was so small I had to enlarge it even to read it.)
It included requesting that he be given comport as he has given others, that those involved in his health care receive divine support, that “his friends, colleagues, and loved ones be a steady reminder of the steadfast presence of the spirit,” and ended “We join the faithful in prayer for Pope Francis’s health. May Francis know himself as beloved, cared for, amd well-accompanied during this time.”
No request for money, nothing negative, recognizing that he, like all of us, depends not just directly on God, but on a myriad of other humans, and recognizing their labor – if you feel you need to ask someone else to pray with you, that’s the way to do it. Somewhat different from “Pastor Paula.”
OMG! This woman is not a Christian! Using Biblical verses to tell people to send money based on the specific verse number is CRAZY! This woman should not be in any citizen tax payer’s political position!
