You’re seeing the roadmap for the next four years. First and foremost, the golden rule is that anything good that has happened the past few years or during the interregnum will be something Trump takes credit for. And anything bad that has ever happened, or will happen during Trump 2.0, is the fault of Joe Biden and Democrats. That’s the template. Everything will fit into that construct. Here we go today.

Trump isn’t in office, nor has he been for the duration of this conflict. But he’s peacocking and predicting what will come next. Truth being, he doesn’t have a clue what will come next or how we got here to begin with in the first place. He just sees a good photo opportunity and voila, in front of the cameras he appears. Axios:

The latest: Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani officially announced an agreement has been reached and said it will come into effect on Sunday. A joint U.S.-Egyptian-Qatari team in Cairo will monitor the implementation of the ceasefire agreement, he said.

  • President-elect Trump on Truth Social said “we have a deal for hostages in the Middle East.”
  • President Biden said it “is the result not only of the extreme pressure that Hamas has been under and the changed regional equation after a ceasefire in Lebanon and weakening of Iran — but also of dogged and painstaking American diplomacy.”
  • Biden said several U.S. citizens being held hostage will be released as part of the first phase of the deal.
  • Israeli officials said it will be two U.S. citizens, Keith Siegel and Sagui Dekel-Chen.
  • Biden said he is “confident” the deal will hold.

The Israeli cabinet will convene on Thursday morning local time to approve the Gaza hostage and ceasefire deal, officials said.

  • Israel and Hamas haven’t officially announced a deal, but NBC News reported senior Hamas official Basem Naim confirmed the militant group had agreed to the agreement.

The big picture: The indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas reached a critical point over the weekend, one week before Trump will be sworn into office.

And what does “hell to pay” mean? He doesn’t know. Trump is the last person in this scenario who has any remote clue what is going on. It’s pretty evident here that the adults involved decided that they would attempt to make peace before El Lunatic got into office and complicated matters.

Joe Biden has four more days in office. I hope he can make the most of them. Because come the 20th, we are all in for a world of hurt. We just don’t know the details yet.

  1. Not quite the Carter/Reagan scenario in that it is agreed on Biden’s watch with credit going to the President’s patient long-term strategy, hindered by Trump and the Netanyahu axis. Realpolitik says that Trump’s imminent arrival probably concentrated minds, so some credit to him (He’s taking it anyways.) HOWEVER, the whole plan is a long term, delicate balancing act before it is a done deal (think a bomb disposal ace working on an IED where the slightest tremor will set the whole thing off). In this case the bomb disposal guy or his boss will the elephantine President. AND, because the deal was signed off under Biden’s watch, any and all blame will be attached to him. Though, as the old saw has it, when you point a finger, there are more pointing back at you.

  2. I am never surprised when my dog licks his privates, sniffs another dog’s ass, or gets fleas in warm weather. That’s what dogs do. Anyone surprised by Trump at this point, must either be blind, deaf, or just phucking stupid. He’s nothing, if not predictable as the earth turns. Expect the worst, and he’ll prove that you had no idea how bad it can get.
