Putin has been whispering yelling down a loud hailer into Trumpty Dumbty’s ear into what passes for his brain. Trump owes Putin big time for decades of loans dating back to the mid-1980s, lucrative illegal business transactions with Russian oligarchs, and substantial political assistance in 2016 and 2024.
The Russian megalomaniac has been eying Greenland as strategic militarily but he can’t get it himself. His ragtag forces are held together with gaffer tape and the economy is on the rocks. So he’s sending his lap dog to fetch it for him. Oh and by the way, he wants Alaska returned too but he doesn’t want Canada as a neighbour.
Trump, labouring under the delusion that he’s clever, decides Canada would make a great 51st state. He could more than double the size of the USA (according to Worldometer, Canada is the second largest country in the world by area, while the United States is the fourth largest), give Alaska back and win the Nobel Peace Prize, a Golden Globe and an Academy Award.
It isn’t that Trump is insane but he is monumentally stupid. I mean, Canada? Really? He has no idea of Canada’s place in the world, not an inkling.
Even though Dumbty, his criminal cabal associates and the maga masses are apparently allergic to education, a few facts wouldn’t go astray at this point.
Let’s begin with the Commonwealth of Nations. I’ve met Europeans who didn’t know this political organisation existed so it’s a fair bet the maga masses haven’t a clue.
The Commonwealth of Nations, often simply referred to as the Commonwealth, dates back to the first half of the 20th century with the decolonisation of the British Empire through increased self-governance of its territories. The Commonwealth is a voluntary association of 56 independent and equal countries connected through their use of the English language and historical-cultural ties.

The Commonwealth Charter expresses the commitment of member states to the development of free and democratic societies and the promotion of peace and prosperity to improve the lives of all the people of the Commonwealth.

That’s right: 2.7 billion people. This is not an organisation that the States want to annoy. 56 pissed-off countries threatening cancellation of trade and tourism with the US is not to be taken lightly. Imagine them massing on Canada’s southern border with their 56 flags snapping in a stiff nor-easter.
But that’s not all. As Blue Sky friend Mary Ann (@graced61.bsky.social) reminded me, Canada is also a member nation of NATO, an organisation comprising 32 countries. We’ve already counted Canada and Great Britain in the Commonwealth total and we’ll be dropping the US altogether since it’s doing duty as a would-be aggressor in this scenario. So that leaves a further 29 countries making a grand total of 85.
What a colourful sight all those flags would be! You can see how impressive they’d look from the feature image.
Now among those 85 nations are most of the USA’s former allies – I say “former” because they wouldn’t be rallying around the US on this occasion. Of course, officers from their massed forces might nip across the border to load up on some super-sized pizzas to accompany plates of poutine for the troops for supper but, on the whole, you can be sure that diplomatic relations with the Trump regime will be at permafrost temperatures.
There are citizens from one more country that will stand shoulder to shoulder with us: Democrats from the US of A, and every one of you will be welcome!
You are now fully equipped to handle any number of maga-nuts that babble at you about annexing Canada. You can tell them from this Aussie that we will stand in solidarity with our Commonwealth sisters and brothers, NATO allies and Democratic friends. They’ve got Buckley’s! The North will beat the South again!

I was hoping that by now Americans would have worked out that British royalty no longer has the power (and hasn’t had it since Britain decided to switch to a parliamentary system) to run their own country let alone any country in the Commonwealth. The kings and queens of Britain are titular heads, ie in name only. They do play a useful role but that role does not include dictatorial rule.
SCOTUS has far more power over the US – including being able to tell Presidents what they can and can’t do – than King Charles III has over Great Britain or any other country in the Commonwealth.
He couldn’t even keep Andrew off Epsteins rape island, much less rule Britain.
