I get that everybody is shell shocked and depressed. So am I. Believe me, you don’t want to know. But I also know that the sooner we get back in the fight the better off we’re all going to be. Two things always to bear in mind: the political pendulum always swings back and frequently it swings back with a vengeance. This you have seen before, you will see it again. Secondly, the bluster sounds good at this point. Trump is on an ego-jacking honeymoon right now. He’s convinced he’s a positive god. He has forgotten how he screwed up the first time and he’s going to find out how little he’s learned and also how much older he’s gotten. The only guarantee to be made about the incoming administration is that nobody, and I mean no body knows what will happen, other than it’s going to be batshit. But here are a few thoughts.

Yes. We’re going to have to see the agenda frame itself but you know that it will. With this crowd in power, the agenda will fall into place and swiftly. A few more thoughts.

I really think that that is as simple as it gets. We had a fantastic turnout in 2020, due to COVID. The country hated COVID and they hated Trump by extension because he lied about it, delayed dealing with it, came up with stupid ideas like injecting bleach and inserting ultra violet lights in one’s anal cavity, all of that madness. So the electorate let him know in no uncertain terms how it felt.

2024 was different. We were in a post-COVID global recession. Mainstream media does not cover Trump’s abuses like it should. We know that. And we know that right-wing media caters to Trump’s imbecility and makes it palatable. And that is not going to change. Mainstream media outlets do not want to alienate Trump any more than they have to, because they need access in order to do their jobs. I predict you will see the growth of independent media outlets as the years go by. In fact, I pray for that because that’s the business we’re in here — cutting through the noise and the bullshit and extract the gems of truth and put them on display.

We can talk all day and night about Kamala’s downfall but one truth is that Joe should have decided to leave the race earlier. He did not and let’s give the man a break. He was doing a fine job. None of us can say when age will catch up to us. As Democrats, that was a risk we ran when we nominated a candidate that old. And say what you will about Kamala, she rose to the occasion and did a masterful job in the 100 or so days that she had. We can’t fault her. And fault is not going to get the job done. The only thing that will get the job done is work and diligence.

My mantra going forward is going to be: We are not the crazy ones. We are fully half the country.

We have to think strategically. The old adage, “Democrats fall in love, Republicans fall in line,” is an accurate one. I said back in 2016 that Bernie Sanders would likely have beaten Trump and I still believe that. Not to say that Sanders was a better candidate than Hillary Clinton. Not saying that at all. But “better” and “electable” are two different things.

Going forward the Democratic party needs to concentrate on electability. On strategy. On winning. Because no matter how great the message, how great the candidate, you can’t win the game unless you’re in the game.

We are out of the game, yes, but by a thread. Bear that reality in mind. If Trump had won by 500 electoral votes, done a Reagan or a Lyndon Johnson number, or Nixon in 1972, I would be panicked. If there was a 40-seat advantage in the House, I would be panicked. If there was a 20-seat advantage in the Senate, I would be panicked. That did not happen. Fully half the country does not want anything to do with this man and they have made that opinion manifestly clear.

And we are about to see what that looks like in real terms come January. Four senators were on board to block Matt Gaetz. That is allegedly what Trump told Gaetz when he got him on the phone and Gaetz stepped down the next day. That may not be an anamoly. That may be the status quo going forward.

Put it this way: neither Trump nor any of these people around him have gotten more competent. More wily, perhaps. More desperate, absolutely. But more competent? No.

  1. “We lost by 12 votes per precinct.”

Something to quote back to anyone who thinks their vote doesn’t count.

And to ANYONE who ‘didn’t bother to vote’, a zero tolerance of any complaint from them.

    They could have stopped this.

  2. “I said back in 2016 that Bernie Sanders would likely have beaten Trump and I still believe that. Not to say that Sanders was a better candidate than Hillary Clinton. Not saying that at all. But “better” and “electable” are two different things.”

No. NO! Bernie was not a Democrat. He was just as self-serving and conniving as Donald Trump. Bernie LIED to the Democratic Party leadership when he PROMISED that he would run AS A DEMOCRAT in ALL future elections. When he was up for re-election in 2018, he ran as an Independent. Then the f*cking son-of-a-biscuit had the audacity to declare a second try at the Democratic nomination in 2020. And the Democrats continue letting that self-serving manipulative son-of-a-bike acting like he’s a Democratic Party spokesperson and allowing the conniving ass-wipe to “analyze” the Party and its issues as though he has some kind of say in the Party’s business.

And too many MFing “progressives” just let him do it.

If Sanders wants to hold some sort of status as a “Democratic Party leader” or “elder statesman,” then the self-righteous loon needs to join the Party. If he can’t do that in “good conscience” (because the “voters elected him as an Independent” and he “can’t go against them”), then he needs to just step the fork back from any sort of role that the Democrats give him.

But I will NEVER accept that anyone, especially someone who calls themselves a Democrat or a progressive, could support that LYING, SELF-SERVING piece of crap. The man knew he could NEVER get anywhere as close to getting in the White House as an Independent so HE chose to try to hijack the Democratic Party to achieve that goal (just like Trump couldn’t get elected from outside the system so he hijacked a Party whose voters he’d publicly disparaged years earlier as dupes).

Sorry about the rant but, let’s not forget how the GOP has used “socialist” and “Communist” and “Marxist” as disparaging terms against Democrats who are legitimately anything but and how much time gets wasted by the Democrats fighting those absolutely false claims. Yet Sanders IS a legitimate Socialist–by his own admission. And people think that Socialist Sanders could have possibly won against Trump? Please. Anyone who thinks that is just falling for the “let’s blame the woman for failing to win the White House” trope.

    • Admitting that misogyny exists and recognizing its strength is not itself misogyny, nor is it “blaming the woman.” As a 79 wear old woman myself, I have no difficulty realizing that. I’m sorry that you apparently do have difficulty with it.

Misogyny is a force stronger than sexism, stronger than nationalism, and stronger than religious bias. That can lead to some confusion, since they all seem to go together. But when push comes to shove, it’s the misogyny which determines outcomes.

The failure of the Democratic Party to recognize this will only lead to more and more of our finest, best, and brightest women being sacrificed on the altar of equality – and to more and more reactionary administrations with more and more suffering for those who are most vulnerable among us. Of course, recognizing it will be painful. But if we all grow spines and recognize it anyway, there will be less pain in the end.

      • 110%!!!
After this election, I see misogyny as a powerful force in America. It’s sad and puts women in danger. Does this mean that the chances of women even running for office are greatly diminished? Yes, I think they are.

South Korea is going through a similar national mood. And women are fighting back!! Polls show a low % of SK women want to date or marry because of men’s hateful attitude towards 1/2 the humans on earth. SK men are starting to send for more pliant wives from Vietnam.

  3. YEars back Dennis Miller joked about Palestinians calling Jews terrorists by suggesting that maybe a Jewish terrorist is someone who will argue you to death (guilty!!!) and then went on to mock the idiotic Palestinian argument about splitting Israel in two so Palestinians would be happy and the fighting would be over. “It’s like Arab countries are the size of a full football field, except for one little matchbox somewhere in the middle, and the Arabs are saying ‘you know, if we just split that matchbox in half there will be peace”. Over the last year we have seen in clear and vivid daily protests, not to mention insane pogroms right out of Clockwork Orange the past 3 weeks in Montreal, Toronto, and of course, Amsterdam. You would have to be willfully blind or just plain stupid to not see with blinding clarity how right Dennis was. It is not about sharing Israel (two countries for 2 peoples) and other crap like that. It’s about pure unabashed Jew-hate. Pure, stark, and simple. SO while notwithstanding the majority of Trump’s cabinet will surely create the precise definition of a Kakistocracy, and notwithstanding the fact I cannot stand Elise Stefanik (my congresswoman where I wok in Upstate NY) I must nonetheless support with 100% of my soul the thought of Rubio, Stefanik and Bondi in the positions Trump has set for them. Unlike so many of the Democrats to whom Biden and Kamala would have given cabinet positions (AOC, Mark Pocan, Jamila, Rashida, Ilhan and on and on) these people are clear-eyed realists and NOT full of BS Jew-Hate hiding behind a mask of “no, we LOVE Jews, we just don’t agree with Zionists”. F^$#k you, you lying sacks of racist shit you-all !!! From the perspective of a confirmed left-wing HONEST truth telling Jew, I LOVE these appointments because at least where Israel is concerned, they’re honest and speak truth, not left-wing BS crap! Kakistocracy? Sure. But those three will be great for what matters to whole LOT of people who think TRUTH is more important than left-wing “woke” Jew-Hate bullshit lies (genocide, apartheid, the poor babies, etc, etc) total hypocricy ORTHODOXY.

  4. We need to.acknowledge one salient fact: a good chunk of this country will not vote for woman, let alone a highly educated successful, childless woman, especially a Black.woman. Trump carried his faithful flock of evangelical Christians, who accept as Gospel that women are meant to submit to men, to.their masters (fathers and husbands).
