I guess in television in this day and age, if there’s a solid enough paycheck, you’ll get in front of a camera and say anything at all. This is not the first crazy utterance of this particular Wednesday morning and as I predicted a few days ago, it’s going to be completely batshit for the remainder of the 2024 presidential campaign. All stops are out, no holds are barred. Here’s the latest plunge of our social discourse.
There is purportedly a Daily Mail article about Doug Emhoff slapping a girlfriend ten years ago, which he has denied. But the denial is neither here nor there. The point is that desperate people say and do desperate things and right now Trump supporters will say anything to save his bacon. Any. Thing. Because it actually does get worse than this. You believe that? Look at this and you will.
Nazi generals served Hitler better than American generals served Trump. Ergo, Trump deserves Nazi generals. Flawless *logic* don’t you think? Even for Fox News this is pretty bad.
Both of these clips are testaments to what I’ve believed for years about television *political commentary* for the most part, which is that it’s a bunch of dummies spewing drivel and hoping that it makes enough sense to where the viewers don’t totally tune out — although if you’re a viewer of this dreck, you are tuned out per se.
This is what you get with a dumbed down electorate, since the 1980’s, which encompasses the lifetimes of most Americans alive today. Those of us who were educated prior to the 80’s have a much more basic grasp of critical thinking skills and analysis and we have read a few books. Not so much for the generation of the 80’s and beyond.
Let us hope that the better angels of America’s nature guide us in this election cycle. Because if this isn’t the eve of destruction that we’re on, it’s close enough for me.

The low level.of critical thinking in 80’+ voters actually reflects both religion, ethnicity and what that state’s citizens think about education. The South and rural.Midwest are deeply and very conservatively religious as well.as very white. They also tend to.consider advanced education s waste of time. My in-laws in GA earned their living in education, and they were actually on the liberal side yet I would net they all.voted for Trump because Jeebus..
I always cringe when people who have no real adherence to the truth are described as religious. They are not. Just because someone thinks of themselves with faux titles, it doesn’t mean they have a clue about the history of their religious tradition, textual scholarship, or that they even care to challenge their knowledge and so called faith. More often the term is used to justify what Dylan described in Idiot Wind…their minds are filled with big ideas, images, and distorted facts. Yep.
If they “were actually on the liberal side,” then they probably also actually have a clue what Jesus taught, and therefore are more likely to consider Trump** to be the “Apricot Antichrist.” Mainstream Christian denominations and even a large minority of Evangelical consider Trump**’s cult to be blasphemous.
