The nation saw a highly-charged presidential race burst out of the gates yesterday in Georgia’s first day of early voting. The turn-out in blue districts was historic in nearly doubling up the record-setting 2020 COVID election. Georgia could be a pivotal contest in the race toward 271 in a national election that remains 50-50 no matter how much we’d like to deny it.. And yet, due to the Republican election apparatus in Georgia and Team Red’s commitment to challenging every vote, Kamala Harris doesn’t just need to “win” Georgia, no – she has to win Georgia decisively in order to clear the bar. It isn’t fair or even reasonable to have to win by a significant margin but it is reality and it will be the only way to ensure that Harris could peacefully be installed as president – I cannot believe that I just wrote that in the United States.
Yes, the political atmosphere in this country compels victories that are nearly unassailable when it comes to Secretarys of State certifying each election. No state will be more difficult to plumb out than Georgia (With the possible exception of North Carolina) where new election laws make it even harder for one side to emerge as the clear winner. It is a tense time period but voters do seem to sense the urgency of the 2024 vote.
To that end, The New York Times reports:
After weeks of fielding phone calls, text messages and direct mail pleas to cast ballots before Election Day, Georgia voters did not waste time: Within six hours of polls opening on Tuesday, the presidential battleground state had posted record turnout for the first day of early voting.
Gabriel Sterling, the chief operating officer for the Georgia secretary of state’s office, said that more than 154,000 people had voted by 1 p.m. on Tuesday, beating the daylong tally of 136,000 from 2020. By 4 p.m., Mr. Sterling said, close to 252,000 people had been to the polls.
So – great. That’s a fantastic, historic first start. Democrats tend to vote early due to the predictable problems with long lines and “broken” machines that one expects on Election Day itself. Any early vote will be decidedly Democratic in nature and thus big big big numbers on the first day are critical. Getting 130,000 more votes than 2020 would have otherwise seemed to be too good to anticipate in the bank.
Additionally, recall that only 12,284 votes gave Joe Biden the victory in 2020. If there are 130,000 more early votes in 2024 (As the math appears to give) then the vast majority of those “extra” votes will go to Harris. For that reason alone, readers around the country should be glowing about the enthusiasm and energy in the metro-Atlanta districts.
We can only hope to see the same numbers begin popping up throughout the country. There is almost no way to move the needle off the 50-50 spread in swing states but what can easily toss the election one way or another is a surprisingly large turn out. If Democrats can continue to put out big numbers in early voting, it will put massive pressure on the Trump campaign to match it with same day vote totals.
For now, though, it is hard to hear better news than a huge boost from the metro-Atlanta area, one that has delivered two U.S. Senators and the Joe Biden victory in 2020. If Harris wins Georgia it will be hard for her to not win the general election and race to 271.

I’m hoping this is a sign that the general electorate, countrywide, will be the same way. We shall see.
You Go Georgians!
With the impossible history to believe, Rump’s past in Georgia should clobber any chance of his going ahead there, “I just need …”, fake electors, all the viral rhetoric he has spewed all along, the continued abuse of ignored vocal limits to his court proceedings …
He has accumulated gobs of fines and is due to appear in court in NY for their almost 500 million in payable, or prison time actions … Trump’s downward slide is acerbated by the fact he is totally stupid, he leaned too hard on his winning to clear himself with the power of the Oval Office, delaying any chance to recover funding … Perhaps the Tower in NY and other miss-begotten properties grabbed for restitution may soften the load some but it seems he has very little money left and the RNC has been backing out the rear door lately …
Poor wittle Trump, never WAS a president but WAS for sure a criminal, destroying our Country and piece of mind … The ride on our backs is over … And so is Trump …
Make it so!
VERY proud to be a part of this number!!!!!!
One of those votes was Jimmy Carter, one of my favorite presidents of all time.
