Do yourself a favor and carve out thirteen minutes to listen to a judge lay down the law eloquently to defendant Tina Peters, the Mike Lindell-aligned former Mesa County, Colorado clerk, who was convicted on seven counts, including four felonies after she helped facilitate unauthorized access to county voting equipment that it was her sworn duty to safeguard. The reason this tape is a must see, must listen is because you could take the exact same words that the judge is speaking and apply them to Donald Trump. Trump also is a person of “privilege” and “defiant” as is Peters. This is such a great piece of legal oratory here that it ranks with some of the speeches in the epic film Judgement At Nuremburg.

This is indeed actual justice. And this is what this country needs to hear more of. CPR:
Ahead of sentencing, Peters asked 21st Judicial District Judge Matthew Barrett for probation. She said she recognized the jury’s decision but that the jury wasn’t allowed to hear other evidence she wanted to present. That evidence was largely tied to conspiracies about Dominion Voting Machines, which were ruled inadmissible.
As he handed down the sentence, Barrett said Peters is privileged compared to the usual defendants he sees, and that she had not shown remorse. He preceded his sentence with a blistering critique of her actions and attitude, calling her an attention-seeking charlatan peddling snake oil “time and time again.”
“I’m convinced you would do it all over again if you could,” Barrett said. “You’re as defiant a defendant as this court has seen.”
Mesa County Commissioner Cody Davis said the estimated cost of Peters’ actions to Mesa County taxpayers was $1.4 million. That includes Peters’s salary while she was barred from the elections office, as well as numerous recounts the county paid for to prove their elections were accurate.
While Davis explained the efforts to convince the public that Peters’ claims were untrue, Barrett interjected to ask what the hand count and other recounts showed.
“I want to know, what was the difference?” Barrett asked.
“They were identical,” Davis said, of the votes, noting that a hand count as well as a tabulation by a different voting machine company confirmed the election tallies were accurate. “No material difference.”
“No material difference whatsoever,” Barrett echoed.
Davis also said Peters’ damage to the county went beyond the budget, to its broader reputation.
“People from across Colorado and other states now associate Mesa County, not with our natural beauty or agriculture, but with the infamous actions of Ms. Peters. Her behavior has made this county a national laughing stock, overshadowing our accomplishments and our values,” Davis concluded.
Former Republican Mesa County Commissioner Scott McInnis called for Peters to face the consequences of her actions; he referred to her as a disgrace and said all of her allegations of fraudulent votes amount to nothing.
“They have never produced not one fraudulent vote, your Honor, not one fraudulent vote in Mesa County. Despite all these allegations, despite all these studies,” said McInnis.
Now what I love about this commentary is the fact that it’s mentioned how Tina Peters has brought disgrace to Mesa County and Lauren Boebert has brought the same kind of disgrace, in fact worse, to her congressional district and the state as a whole. People now associate Colorado with the extreme wingnut Ms. Boebert, as well as the wingnut conspiracy theorist Ms. Peters, and that is to the state’s detriment.
I am glad to see Tina Peters get what’s coming to her and I’m hopeful that enough Coloradans are disgusted with MAGA madness that they will vote Boebert out. Colorado needs a MAGA housecleaning and so do a lot of other states. America could use a MAGA enema, in fact.

Lock. Her. Up.
*big ol’ condescending smirk*
I am soooooo looking forward to hearing an identical sentencing summation given in each of Dimwit Donny’s cases.
For exactly the same reasons.
Watching that judge was thirteen minutes VERY well spent. It would have been interesting to see the reaction of Peters as he spoke. You’d think there is more than one camera in that courtroom and it captures the prosecution and defense tables. Perhaps soon we’ll get to see if she remains defiant or, as it goes on and she realizes she IS going to prison AND that the judge denied any stay of her sentence during his remarks it will be for more than a little while!
I also loved the end with the interaction about court costs. The judge granted the defense a chance to file a motion regarding the amount she will owe, but then when her lawyer held out his motion for a stay the judge flat cut him off – ‘I’ve already denied that.’ She’s off to prison which in time I think will make her regret going down the Trump rabbit hole. Given the length of her sentence there will still be years to serve to drive the point home. I for one have zero sympathy for her.
I didn’t know she was on the jet set and had four lawyers (liars) defending her. … and I really wonder what “demons in her mind” she was chasing for this show. There is not even a blue spot on the liberal-conservative map of Mesa County.

So MAGAt cult mad that she would make this big show for maybe some 10 “evil” democrates [sic] as fealty to Medacious Orange.
I didn’t see it in the article or comments but she was sentenced to nine years.
that’s a good sentence and she’ll appeal it. She’ll do her time in a minimum security prison. 3 years probation after 9 years is pretty good too. Maybe other state electorates will think twice before Nov 5.
