The North Carolina GOP has decided to stand by their man. Great! This is the best development that the Democrats could hope for. After the CNN bombshell story dropped, Sabato’s Crystal Ball at the University of Virginia changed the North Carolina governor race from lean D to likely D.The biggest impact if Robinson stays in will be on none other than Donald Trump. So far it looks like that’s how this is going down. The GOPtanic is blaming CNN for the hole in their stern and calling it all a smear campaign. It’s times like this that you wonder: A. Are they that stupid? or B. Do they secretly want to blow up what’s left of their own party and start over? or C. Both?

It might be a good idea for local GOPers to listen to one of the old dogs who has been in power for a while. He might know a trick or two. Not that I’m any defender of Thom Tillis, but he did call the shot right on this one when he endorsed one of Robinson’s challengers. But now I’m elated that nobody listened to Tillis and that they’ve all collectively decided to double down.
And we are put in mind of the words of Sun Tzu, “Never interrupt your opponent when he is making a mistake.”
And again I remind you, on September 12, when Kamala Harris had that incredible rally in Greensboro, North Carolina, it was said that night that the Tarheel state could be in play. Now along comes shitheel Mark Robinson and says, “Hold my beer.” The state is definitely in play now. It’s not theoretical, it’s actual. And yes, the last poll had Trump and Harris tied at 47%. Let’s see what happens Monday when new polls come out.
Trump cannot win the 2024 election if he loses North Carolina. I have a fantasy of Election Night, where he loses both Pennsylvania and North Carolina and then we start moving westward across the country and watch him lose more.
Maybe it will come true, my dream. Hell, on a night like this, I begin to wonder if we can start picking up races in Texas, even. It could be reverse coattails time. This protege of Trump could help sink Ted Cruz, things like that.
