In theory at least Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles are (still) Co-Chairs of the Trump Campaign. Such as it now is. For a time it seemed like they had things where they and Trump wanted them. Many of us (ok, me in particular) believe that had President Biden not been forced to withdraw that after the conventions Biden would be in good position to win. That of course no longer matters. Many including LaCivita relished the idea of Biden dropping out, envisioning a ‘Dems in disarray’ scenario, a brokered convention and Trump coasting to victory with news outlets focused on Democratic infighting and ignoring Trump’s many flaws. We’ll get to that. What I’m wondering is if LaCivita (along with Wiles) really is on the outside looking in at Team Trump, and if ole Chris is trying to find work elsewhere. With Ted Cruz!
As this article from HuffPost notes LaCivitia seems to have taken a big interest in the Texas Senate race between Ted Cruz and Colin Allred. He seems to feel Cruz should have this in the bag and thinks Cruz has been badly served by his team. Well, it’s not like Cruz is widely admired in Texas. In general Texans hate him almost as much as Cruz’s fellow Senators always have. Cruz came surprisingly close to losing his seat last time around. Maybe LaCivita forgot about that. And the debacle since that earned Cruz the nickname Cancun Cruz. Allred started out without big statewide name recognition but has gained ground. Personally I think if he starts playing up his professional football credentials with a hint of Cruz’s capitulation to Trump (especially Trump mocking his wife’s looks) it might tip things.
The point however is that LaCivita has gone on twitter/X to slam Cruz’s campaign team:
Chris LaCivita, senior campaign adviser for Donald Trump’s 2024 bid, took to social media on Saturday to slam Ted Cruz’s team amid the Texas senator’s push for reelection.
“What the hell is wrong with the Senate race in Texas ? I think i know …and i think i know his name ….time to get some real professionals in to save @tedcruz,” LaCivita wrote on X.
The dig comes as a recent poll shows Cruz — a senator for more than a decade — leading Rep. Colin Allred (D-Texas) by four percentage points, 47%-43%, with a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points.
So with the campaign he’s supposedly running in deep sh*t Chris LaCivita is out there trashing Ted Cruz’s campaign? He’s basically sending a very public message to Cruz which is ‘You need to fire your team while there’s still time to gain control of things and get re-elected.’ Call me crazy, but I think ole Chris has just the person in mind to take over Cruz’s ‘troubled’ campaign. Chris himself! Think about it. It’s not like LaCivita is being listened to anymore. You can say a lot of things about him (bad things – he’s an asshole to the Nth degree after all) but he’s a seasoned political operative and can objectively assess the situation. He (and Wiles) are sidelined while Laura Loomer and Corey Lewindowsky are the ones Trump listens to these days.
LaCivita also probably knows the financial situation with Trump, and is worried about getting stiffed by Trump no matter how hard he works over these last couple of months on the campaign. He probably wakes up from nightmares of Trump telling him ‘You failed me. You were useless so forget about getting paid. SUE me if you dare! More than most LaCivita might know the cash crunch Team Trump faces as we move into these final months. Given that, it might make sense to him to latch on to a candidate who has an actual war chest and who might decide HE needs some new blood in his campaign. Cruz is a hated man but he’s got a campaign war chest. At least from LaCivita’s perspective he would at least get paid!
Granted, if I’m right the way LaCivita is going about ‘applying for a new job’ (with Cruz) is unconventional. WEIRD even. However it’s a theory that fits the facts. Trump has been letting Cruz twist in the wind, probably just for the fun of torturing him. He will in the end endorse Cruz although at this point that could hurt as much as it might help. LaCivita might be trying to salvage something of a future. He might be suggesting to Trump
‘You got Corey back helping and since immigration is the issue you’re counting on, Loomer can get more attention for you with her stuff than anyone else. You’ll need a GOP Senate and with Cruz in trouble why not go ahead and endorse him? AND show off how awesome you are by (ahem) making a BFD about assigning ME to ensure Cruz wins?’
Trump is perhaps the right combination of angry, fearful and gullible enough to buy that load of bullshit. Best of all if Cruz would agree to hire LaCivita he could close the deal with Trump by waiving any money due on his current contract! Now, I freely admit this is some serious speculation on my part. However, it’s a theory that fits the (sort of) facts. To me at least it’s something to think about, and maybe keep an eye on. Things are clearly not all hunky-dory in Trump World, the inner circle these days. About the only thing we can be sure of is that more fireworks, and yes WEIRD stuff will happen with those misfits.
