We are seeing a very interesting sociological development in this country right now. It’s an election year and the electorate is always referred to as a “sleeping giant” that comes to life once every four years. It has come to life roaring and slavering this year, nay this very week, when Joe Biden announced on July 21 that he was not going to seek a second term and passed the torch to Kamala Harris. That was quite a decision. Nobody knew what the result of that decision would be but we know now and it is mind blowing. The latest chapter in the saga is taking place today in none other than The Villages, in Florida.

You do not see this as a matter of course. This is something unusual. Now I do know for a fact that there are some Democrats in The Villages because we have at least one reading this blog and kindly donating to our efforts. But she’s in the minority, from what I understand. The Villages is a bright red enclave, for the most part. So what is happening here?

We can only speculate but here’s a general hypothesis:

  1. People are sick to death of Donald Trump and the madness and negativity that he exudes and that he stands for.
  2. Young people want to see a change. They’ve made that abundantly clear.
  3. Since Kamala has taken the spotlight we have seen a surge in voter registration, volunteer signups and a tsunami of donations.
  4. Trump’s calling Kamala a “bum” and saying he won’t debate her only serves to make him look like the idiot that he is.
  5. Team Trump is taking on water on many fronts. Trump made an ass out of himself again last night when he spoke at Turning Point USA and said that if you only voted him in now, “You’d never have to vote again.” That freaked out plenty of people.
  6. His egregious choice of a running mate is already falling apart. The cat lady hating, couch fornicating, five time name changing Mr. Vance, is just a bit too weird for most people.

Add all these factors together, one can logically draw the conclusion that the country is clearly sending signals that it doesn’t want to go backwards and a vote for Trump is not only a vote back to his awful administration, but something much worse. A second Trump term is going to be the first one on steroids.

I note that Melania isn’t even bothering to fake it anymore. She doesn’t even entertain Donald’s heads of state friends when they’re on her own doorstep.

Happily married man, soon to be president again, he tells us, and his own wife doesn’t even want to pretend to cosign on his fantasy anymore. A picture does speak 1,000 words. And silence speaks volumes as well.

But the good news here is that the electorate is awake and fired up over his opponent. Even the electorate in Florida. So let me remind you once again of those primary races that Trump won. Yes, he did win all of them, except for New Hampshire. BUT, and this is a big but, a large portion of the Republicans who participated in the primaries voted against him and for somebody else. He may have scraped by, but when 40% or more of your own party is voting against you, it’s a sign.

And when The Villages are turning out like this for Kamala Harris, it’s another sign. And finally, I remind you of Stephen Miller melting down last week and of Moses Mikey Johnson saying he wanted to legally challenge Joe Biden’s right to step aside. Those are all compelling signs that there’s a Kamala phenomenon happening now and it is scaring the hell out of Team Trump.

The phenomenon is a combination of qualities that the candidate herself has, coupled with the fact that people are sick unto death of Donald Trump. And the GOP can’t beat that combination. It is a lethal one. Especially not with the extra added weight of J.D. Vance and his scandal du jour package.

The Republicans continue to self immolate.

  1. Your “… The Republicans continue to self immolate…” True! Does not need verification nor denial: we are witnessing it in real time! Next real time event is when the malodorous mango completes his spectacular face plant into the limbo of his own making. Tick! Tick! Tick! Boom!

    • The worst political instincts are manifest in the GOP. To some extent politics involves lying, sycophancy, but since Trump showed up, that’s all that the GOP has come to stand for. That’s why they’re collapsing. And my eternal question is, what’s next? When do they realize they’ve got to dump Trump and rebuild their own party?

  2. At times I’ve played a certain “what if? game. Specifically since then candidate Biden had several excellent choices if he was determined to have a black woman as his running mate I’ve wondered what if Biden had picked someone else? And convinced Kamala Harris to become the AG? The milquetoast Garland would have been far more useful in the #2 slot at DOJ if given a wide berth to start the grinding, even hurculean task of rebuilding the DOJ. Hell, as #2 he could well have made more progress in that critically needed to be done task. But Harris as AG wouldn’t have waited long before appointing a Special Prosecutor (or more than one) to look into the charges we FINALLY (and too late) got in DC and FL.

As President, Harris wouldn’t go ordering or even strongly suggesting her AG go “Trump hunting” or put extra emphasis on prosecuting Trump associates. However, she WOULD appoint someone who would make sure every U.S. Attorney was free to look at allegations and open a formal investigation if there was justification to do so. AND that DC would back them up if/when push came to shove but to make damn sure it was the targets who let word of an investigation leak. AND, if charges were warranted make sure there was a good solid case before coming to DC to lay it out. But it the “there” was there then politics be damned, treat Trump and his folks the same as any other powerful person who evidence showed had committed crimes.

Trump seldom pays attention to his lawyers but he does have a couple of competent ones working for him. If their retainer agreements are rock solid and they’ve got their money secured no matter what they are warning Trump not to say certain things on the trail. They are also telling him the reality he will face (something like I just described) if he loses. I’m sure all of a sudden Trump is scared he’s going to lose. The prospect or refiled charges in FL and a different judge terrifies him. So does judge Chutakan coming up with a rock solid justifcation for keeping most of his DC case intact. If Democrats win big (hey, I’m in dreamer mode tonight) even SCOTUS will with the exception of Thomas and Alito start to look for a way to partially walk back their immunity ruling. I’m convinced several of them went along because they were afraid Trump would win this fall. Given they’d made some prior rulings that pissed him off they were worried about retribution. There attempt at a get out of jail free card they hoped (probably correctly) would save their butts. However, a BEATEN Trump will no longer frighten them.

In fact, given real momentum might build to make meaningful reforms to the Court they might decide to try and kill that momentum by fast tracking Trump’s invevitable appeals and saying ‘oopsie – us refs have looked at the video replay and are changing the original ruling on the field.’ Hey, I said I’m in dreamer mode tonight so why not cut loose?

  3. About the economy: Does anybody in their right mind think Trump can wave a magic wand and make prices go back to what they were in 2019? Kamala and surrogates need to be asking this rhetorical question. Prices, by the way, went up because of post-pandemic supply chain issues and corporate greed. Things Trump couldn’t do anything about.
