So, yesterday Trump went on Fox News’ Fox and Friends to bemoan that his advisers had told him to “be nice” and explain that he couldn’t do that anymore because his current opponent is “real garbage”. I suppose one might surmise that Trump is so angry at Kamala for the contrast she draws between him, the felon, and herself, the prosecutor. There is little doubt that that is a part of what is setting him off, well that and Kamala being just another of a procession of strong black female tormentors from Maxine Waters and Georgia District Attorney Fani Willis to NY Attorney General Trish James.
But Amanda Marcotte over at Salon Magazine sees his anger with a wider lens, as a candidate who saw himself on a glide path to victory by just staying mostly out of the spotlight and on the golf course against a weakened and aging opponent to now, out of necessity, having to put himself out there more on the campaign trail with his own myriad infirmities becoming more pronounced, and where added exposure to his prickly personality might only weaken him.
“The joyful reception that Vice President Kamala Harris received from Democrats when President Joe Biden dropped out of the race and endorsed her was rooted largely in the contrast between the relatively youthful 59-year-old woman and the increasingly frail 81-year-old president. She gives good speeches! She’s fun and energetic! And she can campaign aggressively, especially with Biden remaining president, allowing Harris to make campaigning her full-time job. People in focus groups frequently say they haven’t seen much of Harris these past four years. Well, that’s about to change, since she is well-positioned to give endless interviews, attend frequent events, and give oh-so-many speeches. The contrast with Biden, who struggled to find the energy to campaign on top of running a country, will be notable.
The contrast stands not only with her boss but with her new opponent. It isn’t just Biden who has to limit public appearances, lest he get tired and cranky. Donald Trump, at age 78, has also been mostly absent from the traditional campaign rigamarole. He goes to occasional rallies, where his fans swoon over him, but which get relatively little press. There’s no incentive to cover his usual incoherent stump speech because he doesn’t break any news. He gives interviews to right-wing outlets, which mostly ask him how he got to be so darn perfect while avoiding topics that might draw interest from the larger public. He unloads his far-right venom on Truth Social, but since most journalists ignore that, he might as well be blogging into the void. He golfs a lot and, of course, had to sit in the untelevised trial in May, which resulted in 34 felony convictions. But to average Americans, especially swing voters who will decide the race, Trump is mostly out of sight and out of mind.”
But now he has to contend with this new “nasty woman” who is adding prodigiously to the campaign dollars in the Democrats’ already huge war chest and who also will not be lacking for energy in her efforts to defeat him in November:
“With Harris as the Democratic nominee, however, Trump is caught in a no-win situation. If he continues to hang back from the campaign trail while she’s out there hustling, he’ll start inviting the questions about whether he’s too old and weak, the exact questions that plagued Biden. But if he starts doing more media and events that are outside the MAGA bubble, he will draw negative attention and remind voters why they hate him. In the face of this paradox, Trump’s first impulse was to keep pretending Biden is his opponent. As reality sets in, Trump’s freaking out.”
And “freaking out” Trump is the same flaming jerk we know so well from before his ever so brief “nice” period was introduced. And the more of that side of him that voters see, the less likely it becomes that he will be elected.
No-win indeed.
Go read some more of Ms. Marcotte over at Salon if you are so inclined. She seems to have settled in for the election and is not, as far as I see, pay-walled. If you dislike the Donald, she is your gal.

The anchor who is surprised by trump’s childish behavior/name-calling must have been living under a rock the past decade. This is the only behavior, outside of avarice and hatred, he ever displays. His emotional/psychological growth ceased at an early age, grade school by the look of things…come to think of it, so did his intellectual growth.
There was a time when children, young children at that, acted the way he does they were punished, promptly so the behavior was nipped in the bud. Does this not happen any more? Do the magats in his cult allow their children to act like he does? If so, this bodes ill for our nation regardless of who wins in Nov. You cannot have such behavior exhibited by 1/2 of a nation and achieve anything let alone anything great. If the magats are raising their children based on what they see displayed by trump, too large a portion of our society will be dolts capable only of being serfs to some overlord. Innovation, creativity, invention, all of the things that at one time this nation had in abundance will become rare things. I expect the children NOT being raised to be mindless cretins will achieve a higher level of education and leave the country (much like children going to college and then leaving agrarian and/or backward red states). Instead of foreigners coming HERE to be educated, perhaps future generations will be going overseas for higher education (I’m pretty sure that proj 1825 pile of fecal matter has that in mind) and not coming back to the US if at all possible, although I can see other countries seeing americans thru the same lens too many of our citizens use on foreigners today. I can see the value in keeping americans out of civilized, educated, progressive nations today but even more so when america becomes one of those shit-hole countries.

I find it interesting how the dynamics have changed for the administration. Now, Joe Biden can concentrate on what he does best; running the country without the duality of trying to get reelected at the same time. Kamala can totally focus on attacking Trump. Trump is already spread too thin (no pun intended) to attack both of them at the same time. He has neither the money nor the energy to fight them both. But, I will send him my “thoughts and prayers” for his eventual demise.

He wasn’t having a “nice” moment, he was just trying to figure out how to raise money off the situation, how to best pose for the picture that would bring in the donations from his sheeple. Hence the fist pumping and the “fight” and standing up despite the secret service trying to cover him up. $$$$$ is all he cares about, even if his life is in “danger”. Not to diminish from someone firing an automatic weapon in his general direction (we still do not know if dfg was his intended target – I’d love to know the relationship the shooter had, if any, with the gentleman who was fatally wounded. If it’s there, it’ll come out… eventually.) That was a despicable act no matter who was the intended target. There are questions to be answered and I believe that they are just starting to be brought into the light.
